I gotta' get out more! Says the Naturopath. Long standing problem....

Wednesday, January 30, 2013

I had a long meeting with my naturopath yesterday. she questioned me to figure out how I might control my evening eating problem.

Of course I knew the answer. And yesterday the strategy actually worked! I got into bed about 10:00 , took 2 tylenol for pain after physical therapy for my left shoulder, and slept waking only briefly twice. emoticon A good night's sleep is such a blessing.

This morning I am up early enough for water aerobics at 9:15 am. emoticon

She wants me to find activities out of the house. I need things in the afternoon. And that is not so easy!

I already called about Friends of the Library at 2:00 pm the first Thursday of the month. So I will go next week Thur. A friend already goes, so that should be easy for me.

I'd like to restart geocaching. Over a year ago I bought a second Garmin for that .
I have been planning this for awhile but never seem to get around to doing it. I used to go and had a great time.

A new friend I met at the pool last night is also on Sparkpeople! emoticon
She sews and does crafts. For retirement , the school gave me my choice of a gift. I picked a sewing machine from a catalog. I never even opened the box. I keep waiting for my house to be decluttered. Of course this will never happen! I will set up the machine to have another hobby at home. That will, of course, be second to sparkpeople. Long ago I used to make clothes for myself. And I know I like sewing an a machine. It has been years and years since I did that. It better be like riding a bike. Ya never forget!

OK that is a start, right.

I am supposed to look in the town brochure about the senior center. I know they have events and classes and lunches, etc. that is another source of activities.

Wish me luck! For many years (even before my husband's stroke) I have been trying to get out more and have some fun. I am retired now so I am not socializing at work. It has been over a year since I went to work. I am finally recuperated and the paperwork including bills is now under control (mostly).

Wow - you sound so much like me that I could have written your blog - right down to the sewing machine!! Only my only physical problem is an achy knee... But I keep thinking of going to the senior center (several of my friends do) and haven't gotten myself there yet. Best of luck to you - I agree that staying busy is a key to weight loss and control!! emoticon

You must have read my mind this morning. I read the SP write up about late evening snacking and I was sitting here thinking to myself "ya know if I could get active in the evening I wouldn't snack so much of an evening" and your right when I sew I DONT snack..... By jove I think you have something here. So lets give the active evenings a shot and strive to get to bed by 10...... then see where we are in a month?????

What about volunteering at the library? I'm sure they have plenty they could use help with. If that doesn't sound fun, there are hundreds of ways to donate your time and help you meet people. Think about what you love doing and find a way to do that as a volunteer.

Our local library offers all kinds of groups people can sign up for, puzzles, crafting, knitting, crocheting, sewing, older women teaching younger women how to do household stuff, etc. If your's doesn't offer any, maybe they would let you start a group.

Have fun sewing!!!! I used to sew all the time, now it's a challenge because of my eyesight. I wish I could because I loved it! There's so much you can make!
Socializing is a big problem of mine too. There's nothing really I can do around here. My son takes my car to work/college so I'm stuck home unless my Aunt wants to do something. Winter has put a big crimp in everything even my walking.
    Good luck! Have fun!

Congratulations on finding the courage ma'am.
You are ahead of most of us. Humans usually don't or can't go out of their comfort zone.
    Tis fear.
Look how much you have accomplished already!!
Went to your naturopath. A social occasion.
Was blessed with rest for a change.
Called and made plans for a group gathering.
When weather, health permits. You are set to to geocaching. Are you gonna find things in your area or outside your county?
You went to the pool. A social occasion.
    Met a new friend.
Have a new sewing machine. Which leads to endless possibilties.
And Dear Lady, you have been through major health issues with your husband.

I am humbled in the realization of how trivial the problems I deal with compare.

    ((BIG HUGS)) To YOU.
    YOU GO!!!!

Oh Chris, I hope you follow through on your plans to get out of the house more.

That is my biggest problem. Really everthing else hinges on it.

So, check out that senior center brochure...bet they have a LOT of programs!
