Coming into the Home Stretch...Everything Coming Up Roses!

As I slide into the last week of my Paleo challenge, success is a given!

These past 4 weeks have been a real eye opener! Who would have thought that eliminating whole food groups from my eating plan would turn out so well!?!

I didn't miss the legumes, grains or sugar. Me, the bread feen, made it without a single craving! Dairy, on the other hand, was a bit of a challenge. I missed my yogurt. But not enough to cheat. And I'm glad I didn't!

The truly surprising thing is that not once did I feel that I was depriving myself, or that my body was missing any necessary nutrients...just the opposite, in fact!

I have been more alert and energetic than I have been in years! I am no longer dragging by evening...wanting only to curl up on the bed and veg out. But when I do go to bed, I sleep better than I have slept in many years. Not quite the sleep of my youth, but close.

My performance has improved as well. Just this past week, my WOD times have come in more at the middle of the pack instead of me being one of the last stragglers...with one WOD where I was the 1st to finish during my 'class'! The true test, however, will be next week when we repeat the benchmark WOD that started the challenge. If I can shave time off my performance, then I will know that there is something to all the hype!

I have also PR'd 3 of my lifts...

185# Deadlift (90# increase)
65# Push Press (20# increase)
75# Push Jerk (30# increase)

...All of which have enabled me to meet or exceed my 6/1 goals!

If that wasn't good enough, I have also dropped 5 lbs and 3" in total off my waist, hips, upper arms and thighs! It doesn't get better than that!

To say that I am flabbergasted at my progress is the greatest understatement that I have written to date! I started this journey thinking that Paleo was a re-branded Atkins. Boy was I wrong!

Paleo is the next phase of my clean eating...a refinement if you will. Does that mean that I am going Paleo permanently? Maybe...but probably following the 90 percent/10 percent rule which would allow me to have my yogurt every now and again!
