Picking myself back up

Monday, January 28, 2013

Wow, this blog entry is like so many that I've read on this site. This is yet another entry about a person who has strayed from the healthy path, put on a few lbs and is now recommitting themselves to the program. It is cliche , but this is a normal process of a person trying to achieve a long term goal.

I had lost about 25 lbs in 5-6 months right before Thanksgiving. The time between that holiday and New Year's was filled with food, drinks and other treats. So of course, I gained the 10 lbs that all articles say is average weight gain for the holidays. In fact, I gained them all immediately after Thanksgiving. I hate being a statistic.

I feel a little out of control still, even though we are almost in February. I've decided once again to quit drinking alcohol starting the day after the Superbowl. I plan on being a non-drinker for at least another 5-6 months. I've also signed up for the Disneyland 10k in Sept. I started the 5k your way program two weeks ago and so far everything is great and I've had no shin splint pain. I've also decided to start hiking with a group on meetup as an alternate form of training. I plan on doing that 1-2 times a month.

It feels good to vent about this stuff online. Sometimes I get so tired of being overweight and the calorie counting and the exercise. But I know that when I do these things, and they really are a hobby now, I feel much better about life and I am more productive.
