That's how far I ran on Saturday...well 9 miles but I think it sounds pretty cool in inches lol. As with all of my longer runs, this one was no less a learning experience. My BFF and I went to a state park (Petit Jean for you Arkansas peeps). Whit wanted to eat breakfast at the lodge there so we did. We ALWAYS get waffles for breakfast at this lodge because it brings back a lot of childhood memories. I was nervous about eating something so sweet before the run but I didn't use any syrup so I thought I'd be alright. We ate, walked around for a bit, and then started our run. Even though there are trails to the waterfall we ran on the road because I'm too clumsy for trails. It was very hilly!! Whit is an amazing runner and is currently training for her 2nd full marathon but she stayed at my pace and was a fabulous cheerleader. In some ways it was one of my better runs because I had her there to cheer me on and keep me going up the hills when I wanted to stop. In other ways it was one of the worst because I threw up a tiny bit lol.

That morning I forgot my Shot Blocks and so I didn't have any fuel for the run. Whit had an extra chocolate GU that she said I could use. At mile 4 1/2 we stopped so I could stretch and take the GU. First, let me say how delish it was...tasted JUST LIKE chocolate icing!! But my stomach doesn't handle sweet stuff very well when I'm heated so after a tiny taste of it I almost threw up instantly. I'm not sure if it was just because of the sweetness of the GU or the combo of it and the waffle. From that point on every so often I'd be running and I would gag and one time some stuff came up...yuck!

I've always had issues with my right knee, it swells and aches and whatnot every time I work out. For the most part these days it eventually recovers and I'm fine. Well on Sat after the run I notice that my left knee started having shooting pains going through it. This really concerned me since it is my "good" knee. I've babied it since then and today it seems better but I'm still worried. This Sat is a short 4 miles so I'm glad it will have a little time to rest before the next long run next weekend.

I'm still trying to figure out my diet and how to lose weight but still have enough energy for these longer runs. It didn't I'm up 4 lbs from last Monday :(. Part of that is probably contributions from it being that TOM but it's probably because I ate too much as well. It's all so frustrating!!

    I've never been able to go running successfully after eating. I know everything says to, but I always have to weight until after words or I get super sick and honestly I can't handle vomit very well, let alone continue running after doing that. I guess everyone has there things. But you may want to go down in miles a couple days because you don't want to cause a bad injury. Another thing I've read is if you do strengthening exercises (and stretching of course) for quadriceps and hamstrings it could easy and potentially stop the pain all together!

    And way to be amazing! I am thoroughly impressed with you doing 9 miles. I always think I'm going to die after 5 lol. emoticon

    Wow - so sorry to hear that you had some nauseousness to contend with! When you are already out busting your butt running 9 miles that just really isn't fair!! LOL But it is all part of the training too...learning what does and doesn't work.

    Hope the knee issue was just from the hill work and muscle soreness...take care of yourself!

    And finally - WAY TO GO!! Nine freaking miles is a REALLY long way and YOU DID IT! :-)

    Nice job on the run, even if stuff came up.... My fiancé says that happens and you just gotta push forward...drink water, etc ....he ran track in high school and puked a lot haha.
    Anyways, the eating and working out thing will even itself out for you soon, I'm sure. Think about what your eating before and after your runs, and not just the day of. Our bodies need the right nutrition days leading up to the run, and the days following it, too.
