Made Our Decision!

Friday, January 25, 2013

Well, we decided to take the adventurous route and move to Spain. In 2 weeks my husband's travel schedule is going to be insane. So now it is the calm before the storm. We started going through all our belongings and are trying to sell it or give it away.

Remember when I said that I loved my stuff? Well, I don't!!! emoticon There is way too much stuff to go through. It really is disgusting. I have closets and cupboard full of it. And they are things that I hardly ever use. When I said that I liked all my little treasures, I was thinking of the ones that I see every day. But oh my there is so much more behind closed doors! We have been going through it all day and I am exhausted and in a bad mood. I am looking forward to a simpler life style.

In Spain, we have no place to store things. My husband made me promise that neither one of us will buy any more stuff when we move, unless we have full consensus of the other person. DEAL!!!

On a very sad note, I told my closest friend today of our decision to move to Europe and she couldn't stop crying. She was happy for me, but she was broken-hearted at the idea of not being able to see me often. Of course I told her that she was welcome any time to come for a visit, but we both know that it won't be the same. emoticon

Well, I better scoot. We have a bunch of people coming tonight in response to our ADs.

Until next time.....

My DH I& I were just talking about all of our stuff! He wants to get a "pod" to store stuff. I said if we just go through it & get rid of the things we NEVER use, we wouldn't need one. (I've just moved back in with him AND I still have 2 storage units, in a different state! 20 X 40). So I am hoping he will go through his stuff, then I can go through mine. Most of mine is related to my performing business, 50 years, now. There ARE many things cannot be replaced, as they are pieces of my art form, but many that are ready for a new home!

Good luck on your new adventure! AND remember to take care of YOU!

Congrats to you!!!! Woo hoo good decision. I think you are going to love your new life. Gosh, you so made me smile thinking back to our 9,000 square foot home and the big estate sale that I organized. I hate having to go through things and make decisions. I acutally have been putting it off down here as well....really have so much "stuff" that I never use. Good to clean house!
I am so happy for you.
    Have a terrific week end.

    Congratulations on making the decision.
Isn't it amazing how much stuff we accumulate of the years? Don't wear yourself out trying to get it all sorted out at once - it didn't get there overnight :)
I found a lot of good info on packing and moving amongst other things on this website:

It sounds so adventurous and fun!

WHen I moved from my farm in 2009 I had about three months to prepare - I put a scale at the door and a paper on the wall, weight and wrote down things in three columns...one for trashing, one for giving away and one for selling... it came together to a respecteble amount of kilos and I advice it because it made me aware that I have too many things around... swore that I would not pile up again but here I am three years later and know that if I moved there would be a lot to get rid of ... again!

I have just come across your blogs and can relate to decisions about moving. I had a work transfer to another state in Australia and they paid for everything so I didn't have to worry about packing my 'stuff'. Now I live with my mother back in my home state and we are faced with the need to move from the family home because we cannot afford very costly repairs. And though we have already gone through and let go of so much 'stuff' there is still so much remaining! We both have health issues so it is hard to literally 'get going'! However, you and DH are both in good health and have somewhere to go to already, which simplifies things a lot - and it looks like a wonderful place! Congratulations on your decision to move. I understand your friend's reaction...it is always hard in her case so hopefully she will be able to make lots of trips over to see you. All the best and good luck with the moving process.

I moved to Germany for a new job three years ago. I have loved most of every minute here. I have 1-2 more years before going back home. I have not been to Spain yet. The weather is better there than in Germany. Plus I speak Spanish and not German. So, your news sounds exciting to me!

I pray your traveling and moving plans so smoothly during this life transition. It is an adventure and a test of learning to trust and to let go too.
