Happiness-Loaded Friday!

TGIF, SparkFriends!!

I have some small updates to share and thought I’d also take the opportunity to wish everyone an awesome weekend!

First – and most importantly – the Hubster is now fully qualified as human (vs. mobile cootie dispenser). He’s feeling pretty close to 100%. I even took him out for not one, but two dates this week. It’s sure nice to have him back. Thank you so much for the well wishes!

And, yes, I managed to dodge the germs myself (so far!).

Also noteworthy this week is the 20th anniversary of our move to Minnesota! Yes, the Hubster and I left the tropical paradise known as Detroit and left for Minneapolis IN JANUARY! Crazy? Not as much as you’d think. For those of you that are familiar with the city, Minneapolis has a wonderful system of connectors (called Skyways) between many of the buildings downtown. Given that we arrived in the winter months, I actually learned to navigate those before I got to know the crossroads. The city has treated us well and we look forward to many more years in Minneapolis.

I tried for a schedule change to my workouts this week. I was loaded with good intentions… and Mother Nature was loaded with below zero air temperatures, LOL. Those aforementioned skyways are great for getting around, as long as you don’t have to use them before they open. Yes, the skyways close overnight AND – since they are privately owned – each one has a different set of open hours. Suffice to say, I can use the skyways to get to the Y, but not all of the ones I need are open at 6AM. I don’t normally mind the cold – in fact, I’ve always walked outside to the Y from home – but when the wind chill puts us at -25 to -30 degrees, the will to stay home is strong.

I went to an amazing yoga workout on Tuesday. Both Wednesday and Thursday were too much to bear outside, but taking the skyways added 10-15 minutes of extra walking to my work commute; not a terrible trade-off. And I will do some ST and go to Pilates tomorrow, whether I walk outdoors or skyway, since the class is at 8:15AM.

Next week we’ll try the new schedule again. The goal is one yoga class, one Pilates class, two group cycles classes and two days of strength training. That’s sounds like a lot, but there’s plenty of room for flexibility, too.

Then again, for Wed-Fri next week we appear to be in deep freeze once more; brrr! I guess I’ll wait and see how the week REALLY goes for me.

Enjoy the weekend, SparkFriends… and stay WARM!

My niece got her PhD at the University and I recall one year, in April, I believe, she wrote that there was an alert not to go outdoors unless absolutely necessary because of the danger of freezing!

Stay well. My husband somehow didn't get the illness that I had. I don't know how he escaped. He rarely does when I get sick, but I'm glad he missed it.

I could use a skywalk this week - just from the Y to my car. That's all I ask. I'm all warm and toasty from my work out and shower and then BANG! frigid air hits and it's all gone.

    It's all good!!

I had to stop reading your blog and go check the weather forecast; yes, the cold will be back but it doesn't look too bad here in NE Wisconsin. I had to get creative with exercise the last few days and am looking forward to the heat wave that's coming up for the next few days and especially looking forward to getting outside!!

Have an outstanding weekend and have fun with your new schedule!

Ian and I have your hubby's cooties. He was sick as a dog on Wednesday and puked for 14 hours. Went back to work the next day but he is still barely eating - mostly BRAT. I got it yesterday and am sick. In bed all day. No throwing up for me- I am leaking at the other end. LOL. And have a cold on top of it, asthma too. Ugh.

I have been noticing some of those temps up your way. Horrible!! Way too cold for me.

We were supposed to get snow/ice today but dodged it. We have another round on Sunday.
