Muscle soreness

Due to a confluence of events I forgot/did not know about, I won't be able to make it to the gym today. Which may be a good thing, because I am feeling super sore. Yesterday I was tired from the aqua thing, but I didn't realize how much so until I got on the elliptical. I could barely get the resistance above 5, and after 10 minutes felt like dying. Is it normal to have such intense fatigue in your leg muscles?

    I know when I bring myself to muscle exhaustion on a NEW activities (using different muscles than I've used in a while) they (and I) take longer to recover than if I brought my biceps to exhaustion (or even failure). Does that make sense? My trainer introduced a new move into my routine on Tuesday and I wanted to simply not move yesterday.
