Little is Much

Wednesday, January 23, 2013

For those who do not know, my husband and I are missionaries. We usually spend several months a year overseas. As we were summing up our year end I was reminded of a song we heard at a church in Florida a few years ago. The title was Little is Much When God is in it. Well that phrase summed up our year. We gave God our little time, little funds, little talents and He multiplied it to change lives.

Today I heard someone else use that phrase. And thought about my weight loss journey. This week I lost .6lb. To some that is just a little amount but to me it is much. It is much because it is a victory. I am moving forward.
This year I decided not to make big New Year Resolutions. I was going to make weekly step by step decisions and move forward. Each week I would add something new and keep moving forward.
You may remember two blogs ago that I said my value is not in the number on the scale and I would no longer be a slave to the scales. I have succeeded to ignore it for the past two weeks except on my Tuesday WID. I think I may still have some confidence in the scales though. Monday evening I went to bed knowing I would weigh in the morning. I woke up about 3 am to use the bathroom. In the corner I noticed the scales and thought "it is Tuesday" so there I was at 3am half awake checking in on the scales. I stepped back and laughed at myself. Little by little I am making changes. Each little step is much.
This week I had a little victory when I turned down ice cream and had an apple. That little was much in the right direction.

My new step this week is to use Spark couch. This takes a little bite of my time but I know the results will show much.
I still cannot do much exercise because of my knee but I started doing upper body with 2lb weights. I do about 5 min of various sets of moves in the morning and evening. This little bit is much because it is moving me forward.

One of the quotes that caught my eye in my Made to Crave devotional this week was
" Each mini goal you accomplish today is a moment of victory."

I have set several mini goals in 3 areas of my life. Physically, Mentally, and Spiritually. Each day I seek to do a little bit in each area. I have confidence that one day those little bits will add up and before I know it with God's help I will have accomplished much.

Well that is my blog of the week. Thanks to those who have sent me encouragement this week. It means a lot. None of us can do make this journey alone.
I want to encourage you to do what little you can towards your goal this week. Victory is at hand. Keep moving forward. Little is Much.

You're doing great! I've decided the same type of approach to resolutions, etc... I have big plans, but reality takes over and I don't get things done. My doctor suggested that I change one habit each month. After a year, I've made 12 lifestyle changes. Now - I'm still not good at doing all 12... but it helps me to realize that I can make small steps.

I also refuse to bow down to the scale "idol" - not letting it dictate my conscience - telling me if I've been good or bad. It helped that my new scale wouldn't register my starting weight, and the only place I could weigh myself was my dr's office - 25 min away... so we're not making that trip very often without another appt or going through that town. Then - when I did reach a weight that would register - it has only worked a few times. But I do like to be free from thinking about the scale all the time!

May you continue to have success in your journey!
    Have a great weekend!
