30 Day Shred

I started the 30 Day Shred with/by Jillian Michales two days ago. IT IS INTENSE! The DVD has 3 levels. You can move up at your comfort (although for a true “30 day shred” I’d think you’d want to do a level for ten days at a time). And within each level she has two girls you can follow along with: one who does the beginner modifications, and one who does the advanced modifications. So even though the DVD only has 3 workouts, there is lots of room for growth in each level.

The workouts are only 20 minutes long and require hand weights and an exercise mat. (For hard surfaces; I’m working out in my living room and it’s carpeted, so I don’t have a mat.) Each move she demonstrates you only do for 30 seconds at a stretch and there ANRE NO BREAKS! Pretty much, it’s an uber intense circuit workout.

I got my husband to do it with me yesterday. I knew he’d want to use a higher weight and do the advanced modifications because he’s a guy and thinks he’s Superman. But I warned him to use a lighter weight… he didn’t listen. He was pretty much dying by the minute 4. He even had to put the weights down and finish some of the moves without weights! It made me feel a lot better about my own achievements to see that the workout was difficult even for him.

So he and I are hooked! We will be following the 30 Day Shred almost to the day. Tuesdays and Thursdays we are at school, so we plan to meet up at the gym between classes. But the rest of the week it’s Jillian Michales all the way!
