As Forrest Gump says, "I...was...RUN-NING!

Sunday, January 20, 2013

This morning I ran a little short on time. I woke up late and got sidetracked by the new Muppets movie that was on TV (dude, it's worth watching just for the chickens alone!) and had to be over at my parents' house for lunch. So I didn't have a full hour for exercise this morning.

I got to the gym not sure what I felt like doing today. I try to rotate my activities depending on how I feel -- some days I run, some days I do a class, some days I do ST (ugh), and then on those days that I am just not feeling it, I read a book on a stationary bike. I wasn't sure what mood I was in. As I walked in, I saw my brother-in-law running on the treadmill. Huh, I didn't know he ran. And I thought hey, I'll do 10 minutes and that will get my blood flowing, and then we'll see what's next.

Well! I put in a good solid 30 minutes and felt AWESOME!

I should mention that running fell by the wayside this winter and my whole routine flew out the window with everything else going on, so 30 minutes for me is pretty much rocking it! Our treadmills have these little TV screens mounted to the control board so that when you stare straight ahead, that's what's in your face. These haven't worked since the summer, so it's just a dark screen. BUT, I can see my reflection in it, which normally I don't like, but man. I could see my arms pumping and my body moving in that special rhythm that runners have -- you all know what I'm talking about, when you've been running a while and you just have that groove? Yeah, I got that! -- and it was really cool. I am not good at pushing myself if I don't have focus, and somehow I went from hoping to do 10 minutes to holy moly, I did 30!

I was a major rock star today, and will be starting my Rock the Poundage tour soon (tickets available at the gate). Very proud of myself! I think I can start upping my speed again and see where things take me!

Does your Rock the Poundage Tour need any roadies? I'm keen to tag along!!

And YES the Muppets movie is a worthwhile distraction. I saw it in theatres and I haven't laughed that hard - out loud - in public - in a very long time. Max and I were both in tears, we were laughing so hard.

Way to go on the run! Perhaps you'll be ready to take some runs outdoors in the springtime...? Maybe sign up for a 5k or something? Go for a "fartlek", in which you add little bursts of speed wherever you feel like...? Add in a hill repeats run one day...? Talk about interval training: running hills will give you a rock star butt and a rock star calorie burn! Or, you know, you could just run faster on the dreadmill... emoticon

P.S. How are you feeling afterward? It sounds like a run of this calibre is pretty rare, so be sure to give yourself some R&R (or at least a couple days of non-running exercise) to recover.

30 minutes? You are a rock star! I will keep an eye on ticketmaster (or at least Stub Hub) for the tour! Sounds like you kicked some major butt on the treadmill! Awesome! Maybe tomorrow you'll be saying, "Me and running are like peas & carrots!"

How awesome are you! Glad you had such a great workout! We don't have personal TVs, but I can see my reflection in the window when I run on the TM and night and know the feeling of "Holy crap, who's that runner over there?!"
