Tweaking My Fitness and Nutrition Goals

As 2012 ended and the new year began, I continued to work on my goals. I just looked back and took notice of the tweaks I have made over the past month. The week before Christmas, hubby and I both got Fitbits. Now this was a new step, I had one on my wish list. As I was doing my research on them, I found a two pack so I asked hubby if he wanted one and he did! He has not been on my fitness journey with me – that’s why it was a step for him. I love mine! I’m practical and not into gadgets or having the latest, greatest thing. Hubby and I are having a lot of fun with ours and watching our activity levels. I average 10-15K steps on mine daily. In the evening if I’m short on my goal, I push myself to do a little more to reach one of these goals. I also went with my Dad to his gym while away. We enjoyed each other’s company and I had a gym buddy - my Dad!

I began talking to hubby about our eating habits. I got a book out of the library, Choose to Lose by Chris Powell. While away over the holidays, I read it, then hubby read it!!! This is a huge deal for me as hubby has never taken an interest in eating healthier. In his book, Chris recommends switching to almond milk. I switched from skim milk to almond milk, which ended up being an easy transition for me. Hubby followed my lead and our kids also began using it.

Once home from our trip, hubby and I began working on eating healthier and trying some of the ideas in Chris' book. Exciting for me that hubby’s interest was peaked. Hubby and I began challenging ourselves and trying all different recipes. We were working together on our mutual health and nutrition. I finally have nutritional support in my hubby and I’m loving it!

I usually walk outside however I decided to join a gym very close to my home for at least the first 2 months of the year…the chilly months. This offered me options. I wouldn’t have an excuse on those cold mornings. In addition I received a Walk Away the Pounds CD for Christmas with 5 different walks on it – more options. I recently began interval training on the treadmill - jogging every 5 min - it's challenging and (bonus) makes the time go faster.

I've lost 4 more pounds over the past month which brings me to a total of 25 pounds lost!!!! =)

My hubby has only started since January 1st and he's already lost 14 pounds! He gives me a big smile too when he gets of the scale to announce his loss. =)

I’m amazed to find in a month’s time how much a little tweak here or there adds up!
