8 Miler

Saturday, January 19, 2013

This morning I completed 8 miles for the first time and it was ok. Every long run I learn something new, something about myself, my preferences, or just common sense stuff lol. Today I learned that I'm not particular fond of running by the river on cooler days. I'm really cold natured and the wind coming off the river froze me. It was a nice change from running in my neighborhood though. I'm sure I will like it better in the spring.

I invested in this belt to hold my necessities and so I don't have to carry water. I was nervous about spending so much ($45 at Academy) but I gotta say I feel like it was worth every penny. At first I felt kind of self conscience because I thought it was kind of nerdy but I saw lots of people with them and more importantly it was so handy. If you're considering it, I'd def recommend one. This is the one I got.

The run was better and worse than my 6 1/2 last week. It was better because the route was much less hilly and I wasn't wearing that horrible rain jacket. It was worse because I didn't prepare for how cold I'd be and because I wasn't hydrated enough and it was pretty difficult. Next week is 9 miles...eek!!!

I did get an unfortunate rash in between my thighs today. Ugh. Def one of the 'perks' of running that I'm not loving. Guess that extra mile and a half really made the difference in a rash lol.

I booked my trip to Vegas today! Woo hoo! Does anyone have suggestions for must dos while I'm there?

Great job on the run. I also have a belt very similar to yours. Unfortunately, due to heel issues (one already required surgery and the other started to feel the same way when I went back to running), I do not run anymore. And invest in some body glide. It is wonderful stuff!

Way to go!!! You are so right about purchasing a hydration may feel silly at first but once you aren't dehydrated on a run you realize it is so worth it! :-)

Hey - are you taking in any fuel on these longer runs? I know the longer distances are new to you and you should be "fueling" on any runs longer than 60 minutes. You want to make sure your body has the energy to keep going. :-)

I'm not a big Vegas person, but the shops there are pretty amazing - two of my favorites are the Coca Cola store and the M&M store. If you are in to Nascar I hear the Nascar museum thing (it's in one of the casinos I think) is pretty cool too. Also, the lions at the MGM are really neat and are free to see.

When are you going to Vegas? You probably mentioned it but I'm too lazy to go back and look! HA! hehehehe

That's too funny - I have the same fear of those water bottle fanny packs being nerdy and yet I'm kind of jealous of people who have them because they seem so handy! They don't bounce awkwardly while you run?

As far as Vegas goes, I only went once, and I'm not a gambler. I wish I'd gone to some shows, but the people I went with didn't want to. My best advice is, don't go in August - too hot!!

WooHoo on your 8 miler..that's awesome.

As for your rash...On your next run try using some Anti-chaffing/Friction products. I bought a glide stick & rub it on on parts that rub (thighs, heels & arms where my camelback straps sit) more issues. Bought mine at an expo for $10, but i'm sure you can find cheaper ones out there.

Good job on your run, not on the rash! You will get better every time. Vegas sounds like fun. I would probably see some shows, and visit all the different Hotels. emoticon
