What is motivation?

Saturday, January 19, 2013

A good friend recently asked me to send her some of my motivation. I don't recall what I replied. Something self-depreciating, I'm sure. That's because I don't really feel like I have any. I keep looking for some. Maybe I should try some of the more up-scale stores? :-)

But, what is motivation? Why do we have it sometimes, and sometimes not? Is it mood? Energy? Is it related to willpower? Maybe it's the same thing?

So, if we think we don't have any, how do we get it?

I saw something here on SparksPeople that said to never say you don't have motivation. I think that is good advice. Maybe that falls under the "fake it 'til you make it" thing? And that's where I'm at right now.

Yep, I have loads 'o motivation! I will do this! I can do anything I set my mind to! This is my year! Whoohoo!

Did I fool you? Yep, fooled me too! Whatever it takes.

Nice when a little cheerleading from yourself emoticon (or SP, or friends, or a loved one) fixes whatever took hold of you in the first place!!

We can fool our friends some of the time, but can we "ever" fool ourselves? If we can -- I'll give it a try, because I could use some
