Today's frustrating weigh in

Saturday, January 19, 2013

Sorry, but this blog is going to start off with me wallowing.

I'm frustrated. I'm angry. I've been struggling with this for most of this week.

I'm eating right. I'm moving. Heck, this week Lulu and I ran almost 12 miles. Only took one day off.

I know the scale is not the whole story, but it's my biggest measure of my progress right now.

This past week, I've managed to not only work 10 hour days at work, with a 45minute or longer drive EACH way, I'm eating right which means planning ahead. And I'm running.

I'm getting it all in. There are some areas of my life that are suffering because of these adjustments, but I know it will all work out once I get a routine again. So I'm pushing myself to make these positive changes part of my routine, and not get down on myself about what it's costing me yet. It's just putting some things on a shelf and putting me first for a while.

I haven't made the time to take measurements. Or pics. Or anything else. I have my breaking points. If I try to do too much, I will fail at all of it.

So I use the easiest measurement tool there is - the scale.

Done wallowing, and on to trying to justify

I have been doing much better with my water. I have 4 days this week where I had at least 8 glasses of water. That's a HUGE change for me.

Part of me wonders if not having enough water might be affecting this all. I know my body needs water to function optimally. I know I've been chronically dehydrated for a long time. I also know it takes 3 weeks for my body to adjust to getting enough water. That's 3 weeks when I'm getting my water EVERY DAY.

Maybe it's messing with my metabolism a bit?

I know. Grasping at straws.

Speaking of grasping at straws, I have more of them.

TOM is here again. For the second month in a row, it's painful. I haven't had so much trouble with my cycles as I have in the past year.

I know my weight goes up during TOM. Overall, it's water retention, and swelling, and...

Okay. I'm done wallowing. And done justifying.

The scale did not go down. It didn't really go up either. Well, I guess it did, but less than 0.5lbs. That's a cup of coffee and a banana before I get on the scale kind of weight.

No, I didn't do that. I'm just saying it's so little, I'm not really counting it as a gain.

With everything going on, the scale not going up should be counted as a victory. I just don't buy that.

Yesterday was my day off. I have to force myself to take one day a week off of exercising. That way I get some rest. It also helps me avoid burn out and injury. And helps motivate me to get moving again over the next week. It also helps me to push through hard workouts - knowing I only get one day a week off, and this isn't going to be that day.

Looking back over this past week, all steps I've taken have been steps in the right direction.

I can proudly say I started a week ago.

Now it's time to figure out the small stone of the week for next week. Focus on what I can do to take more steps in the right direction.

Hang in there! I know it's frustrating but you're doing everything you can. TOM plays havoc on my weight, I hate the week that it's here when it's time to WI. Are you eating enough to support all your running? I personally found I need to eat more to lose.

It can be frustrating, and disheartening, but don't let the scale turn you off of what you know is good for you. It sounds like your head is in a good place so just keep going! Your hard work and hard choices WILL pay off!

I know how you feel and all of your excuses are justified, especially TOM. (Just wait until you're my age and don't HAVE TOM to blame!). Keep moving forward! You're on track, walking the right path. Never, ever give up! You're on your way!

    KEEP SPARKLING!! emoticon

It is frustrating most of the time. I am looking forward to lose at least 1 lb since June 2012. I do everything right but still I mess up in my calorie level. I wish you just look forward to what you have done in all these past week. Just look at yourself. You have done some amazing job....walking / running + having some great & healthy meal + 8 glass of water. Don't disappoint yourself just because your scale did not move (where you wanted to) . Think about may be you have gain sum muscles and loss some fat which is emoticon because this will help you lose more and more fat every time because 1lb of emoticon muscle = 5 lb of fat emoticon

This happens to me and it is so frustrating!! But!!! I can happily say that the week after the scale does not budge, it seems to go down a lot more. Keep focused, the scale will move and I bet your next weigh in will put a nice smile on your face!!

Here is my motto: it is not about how many days you have been good... It is about being good everyday!!

    Good luck!

This may sound harsh. STOP STOP STOP.....Take a deep breath. It's just a scale. DO NOT LET THIS BEAT YOU. It really sounds like you are working hard. And I want to congradulate you on all your effort. But it sounds like you may be setting yourself up for disaster. Please just slow down. Take time and think of the small successful steps you have made. I have been exactly where you are now. I tried and tried so hard and it hurt so bad b/c I felt like after a few weeks of my hard work I should be down at least 2-3 lbs. But I wasnt. You are working super hard on losing weight and IT WILL HAPPEN. It wont happen over night. Please set yourself up for success. Only you can set yourself up for SUCCESS!!!! My success is taking baby steps and setting small obtainable goals. So I feel like I am making progress. By doing this I am truly accomplishing big goals and big results but it is taking me baby steps to get there. I really do understand the scale frustration. I think I blogged or journaled about murdering my scales!!!! You are on the right track and I know you can do this. You are worth it!!! Dont burnout by over doing it. YOU CAN DO THIS!!!! YOU ARE WORTH IT!!!! I'm sorry if I was a bit harsh. I just want you to know that you are on the right track and you can do it.

That's no gain at all! & TOM drinking extra certainly helps with fluid retention (I'm not sure why but I've started struggling to drink enough!??) so try to get more in - but most of all be kind to yourself! What would you say to someone else - think those kind thoughts for yourself!

Lots of little things ehre,, TOM is about 2-3 pounds,, without your minimum watrer, teh cells are not getting bathed in required fluid,,
stress does not help the situation..

the human body fluctuates in its gains and losses as a basic human survival mode.. (thank caveman)..
I would go two or three weeks with no loss, then bam!! four pounds in one week(no TOM)

Look in the mirror and smile at that person who is doing what she should, working on what she can, and if she was anybody else, you would tell her to be patient with herself.. BE YOUR OWN BEST FRIEND!! not your enemy.. Think losing this battle but winning the war,, the journey, not the destination...
Be nice to her, she is your best friend!!! emoticon emoticon
