Hello SparkPeople ... um, well, people!

I know I've been slackin' on the blogs lately. Forgive me; things have been really busy for me over here in my real life, and that tends to keep me away from cyberspace (even the Sparky kind) more than usual. Now that we're past the holidays, it's just a mad sprint until Daylight Savings Time begins again on March 10th. Up here, near Seattle, that's a really big deal. This is because, at the nadir of winter, it gets dark here at about 4:30 p.m. Yech! (We're not that far from Alaska, but I still can't see Russia from my house.) So, considering how dark and cold and generally dreary the weather has been lately (although, I do realize that I'm kind of spoiled in this relatively mild climate, and it certainly could be a lot colder, so I could be much more miserable, if I really put my mind to it) sometimes one's exercise routine can follow suit. In short, it just gets really boring. Like the kind of boredom you experienced when you were a kid. The kind of boredom in which you would prefer to be doing anything else other than what you have been doing, but you still can't think of anything else to do. (Akin to deciding what you're craving by process of elimination, except that with the former, you're deciding how to burn calories, and in the latter, you're making the huge mistake of accumulating them willy-nilly!) Wow. I really am even more rambly than usual right now, aren't I? My apologies.

So... I've been thinking about what I might do to shake up my exercise routine when I just do not want to go outside. I have my faithful stationary bike. I haven't established any alternates for my at home, indoor exercise. So, without further ado (too much already about nothing, really), here's my new Poll Question:

My ALTERNATE indoor/winter exercise, at home, is:

A. A piece of exercise equipment/home gym

B. Exercise videos (TV/DVD/online, etc.)

C. A game system (such as Wii Fit)

D. Weights

E. Walking (or running) in my house

F. Riding my horse around the house

G. Something else

Please share your winter boredom breakers with me!

Count down to Daylight Savings Time! Ready, set, go!!!

Have FUN, Sparkies!

So do you ride the house around INSIDE the house or outdoors?

I like my rebounder and some good 70's disco music or rock... maybe some 80's music...

Or sometimes I'll go into a tear and actually work up a sweat doing housework. I could sure stand to do that more often, for sure. Ah well, another winter looming up.

Really sorry to hear you can't see Russia. That means you are not qualified to be the VIce President!

I would vote for A or E. Especially if you could get a really nice "A". Then I would augment that with an iPad and download books on tape. Not edifying books but mysteries and thrillers; things that will keep you coming back. Then you just move your arms and legs as you listen to a really great story.

I have weights, a resistance band, dvd's, but I also set a goal to learn how to do 3 things, which means to take classes: hula hopping (fitness hooping), zumba, and qui gong. I've already tried hooping (FUN!!) and I'm going to sign up for a zumba class in February. I joined a fitness challenge at school, and yesterday the trainer had us doing kick boxing moves. It was fun, and a great workout, but I am sore today lol!!

For myself I would have to say all the choices except for F since I don't have a horse.

Wii Fit and videos. Also using things like resistance bands. I think about putting some equipment in my house, but not sure if I'd use it even if it were dusted of cobwebs and placed in a convenient place.

    A. I have a treadmill set up at home, in it's own little room, with a flat screen TV on the wall in front of it, and an oriental rug on the floor under it. It's still boring. I like to go to the gym, but I use the treadmill as an alternative when I can't get to the gym.

G is I will just start dancing. With or without music. I know it sounds weird but when the cold gets me stuck in the house I like to bake to fill the house with the smell of the (cookies, cake, banana bread, whatever). When I am smelling it the entire time I don't eat any, no matter how good. Sometimes I will add something to it that my husband and son will like but I won't, like nuts. While I'm baking and making my house smell good I dance. (or wall pushups/squats/whatever i'm in the mood for) mostly I dance.

    re. Winter Boredom!

I have revamped my indoor exercise the last couple of weeks by hauling out some old CDs of New Orleans Style Jazz and Blues - I dance around my sitting room crooning away under my breath! I now can build up a sweat within 20 minutes and my mood lightens at the same time - it´s is real fun!
