2013 My goals

Thursday, January 17, 2013

This year I am going to be selfish and do things for me.
Last year I helped 2 friends, one with cleaning and gardening and the other with gardening and shopping.

I did do some gardening for myself, but not enough!
Its my aim to get my garden up to scratch this year and grow more veggies than last year. I have joined the organic gardening group to get some helpful ideas. I would like to be self sufficient, but one step at a time.

I will continue to encourage birds and wild life into my garden. I would like to set up another bog garden for the frogs and newts and also I have been told its good for the birds .I am aiming to put in a rockery as well and hoping this will be good for the slow-worms. I do not intend to buy new plants, but will grow some from cuttings and seeds. There will be a small wild garden too with wild flowers, hopefully. All that is in the back garden.

Then there is the front garden, which I also need to change. I have already started, but need to dig out the bramble bushes which keep coming up all over. I will keep my blackberry bush in the back garden, it had lots of fruit last year! It was a fight between me and the birds! LOL! I have not really planned it much yet, but will be taking cuttings and try and propagate more variegated holly trees and hebes which I already have and like. There are wild primroses, white violets and rose bay willow herbs there already so I may plant some bluebells too. I have some hellebores to transplant too.

I have joined a knitting challenge to help me knit some of my spare yarn. I find knitting helps me to relax. Something I was not doing a lot of last year!
The team is:- Jan 2013 Stash Buster/ It's All About Me Challenge
Also, I am on a challenge for the team: Paper Jewellery & More Paper Crafts
I love to play with paper and paint. This is something I can enjoy with my GD along with teaching her to knit and crochet. My first project is a paper rose. Then I will make one in material to put on my hat which the moths attacked.

I am going to spend more time on Spark. I need to tend my Bead Bugs and History teams and did not have much time last year for it. I shall be in the 5% Winter challenge too which is soon to begin.

Adrian and I have started hiking again and I intend to keep it up. Life is easier for him since he started on new medication for his Atherosclerosis. It really is making life better for walking and sleeping and he only started just after Christmas. We did not have much time for hiking together last year.

So that is a good goal to keep up the exercise. I shall continue to do strength training etc etc.

Looks like an ambitious year! Great goals! The knitting challenge sounds right up my alley. I knit regularly every day. I keep telling myself that I won't buy anymore yarn until I use up what I have here at home - but I never stick with that lol.

Good luck with the new year.

I love your ideas for your garden this year, Ellen. Maybe your friends might give you a hand with some of the digging. That bog garden does sound lovely. I don't knit, but I saw a few beautiful items that you've done, and I can see you truly love it. 2013 will be your year. Hopefully, we'll get to see some of your projects as time goes by! emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

emoticon You've got some great goals. I am also one who is bad about doing for everyone else first and myself last. I need to follow your lead and do some things for ME. You'll have to show us the progress of your gardens and knitting.

emoticon goals. Good luck with your garden. What kind of herbs are you planning. I love fresh basil 2 years ago I bought an Aero Garden which is basically a light box with a water well and uses nutrients. I didn't have much luck with the oregano and mint, and the dill always died before I could use it, but boy that basil was delish. I had to pack it away when I had to move out of my last apartment, Now I need to get some more grow lights so I can get it up and running again.....

Your garden plans sounds lovely, and it will sure be nice for the two of you to get walking again.

Post some of your knitting to your page so we can see what you make. Take care.
