Clean eating? hmmmm...

Thursday, January 17, 2013

I hurt my back back in December. Not anything new that I deal with. I go to the chiropractor and he fixes me up. However this time I waited a little late. It wasn't hurting that bad and so I let it go on. I haven't talked about this on here because I don't want it to seem like an excuse. I'm still working out. I'm still going to Zumba but it is affecting me. This past week it really started hurting, especially at night. I've been tossing and turning and not sleeping very well. Wednesday I broke down and took off work to go see Ed the Chiro :) He was surprised at how "out of whack" I was. He fixed me up. I will probably go back tomorrow bc he told me if it still hurts Friday to come back in. SO I was thinking last night I was going to finally get some good sleep. I went to Zumba at 6:00. Got home about 7:00. The boys had all eating yummy frozen chicken nuggets (YUK! the word Yummy there is VERY sarcastic!) So I heated up some chicken & put it in a whole wheat wrap with some salsa. At 3:30 this morning, my chest was screaming at me for eating it! I had heartburn. My husband said while I was sleeping I sounded like I was wrestling a bobcat. I finally got up about 4:00 and never went back to sleep. Looks like my body is subconsciously waking me up REAL EARLY - see previous blog about wanting to get up earlier. LOL!

All of this really got me to thinking about what I put in my mouth even more than I already do. 5 years in & out of spark will make you read more labels than you ever thought you would in your life. (some of you know exactly what I mean) I'm also subscribed to 100 Days of Real Food & some other clean eating blogs. However I have never really tried it - like researched it and said "ok I'm gonna do this" I think I'd like to give this a try. I'm not sure how difficult it will be. But with Spring coming and all the fresh produce it shouldn't be too hard. I'm going to research exactly what it means to eat clean. I mean is cream cheese & sour cream included in that? Those are the things I'd like to find out. I had once upon a time subscribed to Clean Eating magazine. I still have those mostly unread copies. Think I better dust those boogers off! :)

You aren't going to believe this, but I am eating mostly a plant based diet. Which translates to Vegan. Now, don't worry. I am not one of the over the top people who want to preach to you about animal cruelty (although I have seen a couple movies that will make you never touch meat again!).

But I am doing this first for my health and second out of humanity for the animals.

The reason I am telling you this is because just after one week I have so much more energy and feel fantastic!!! And it is hard to feel hungry on this way of eating because you can eat so much!!

I know it's not for everyone and I poo poo'd it for a long time. But eating clean is a GREAT place to start. I would suggest cutting out dairy if you are having tummy problems.

Spring is a great time to work with nature made foods (and I'm not talking about the brand of vitamins). I'm not sure if strict "clean eating" would include sour cream and cream cheese, does it include cheese at all? I did find one brand of sour cream with one ingredient on it, Daisy sour cream is just cultured cream.

Yes, I've read many labels, but now I know what I'm willing to eat.

    Good luck!

    Hey Ruthie,

About three weeks ago I started eating clean *truly*. I stopped eating anything that has been processed, in a container, out of a box, etc. This means I have to cook all my own food (every meal) and use non-processed ingredients. I also look for Organic/Non-GMO ingredients, as I has a slight run-in with an MSG allergy. I'm really beginning to believe that even processed foods that are organic/non-gmo aren't that great for us.. seeing as they use salt/other preservatives in the processing.

Eating non-processed foods isn't as tasking as it sounds though. I rather enjoy my creations!
