You walk to much...

"You walk to much", again you? "you already walked once today", "be careful and don't over do it", are said to me by many to include my wife. I don't mind it I understand the concern and surprise, at one time I myself use to call people to ran marathons and across states crazy. As humans we don't find excuses, we just make them and convince ourselves of things we can't do. Truth is we can just not at the level we see someone else doing it. This was the best thing I heard anyone say to me and it gave me a new perspective on how I turned from saying, that's impossible into I did it! To be honest we all aren't built the same, so congrats on that amazing time but you know what I finished. This is why I don't mind when I finish or if I'm the only one walking in an event. I love doing it and seeing what I can do. If I'm part of your team or group I'm here to support and encourage and cross that finish with you.
But why? Why have I turned to walking?
2012 wasn't my best year and after the death of our family pet of 12 years, I was alone on an island and depression then trouble followed. Life changing event took place and I needed to change what I was doing. So after talking with a doctor I learned to communicate within my family better, but I was still missing something. In the past I have always had that one thing I did that allowed me time to think and talk to God. Skating was my goto thing but after getting sick, surgery and weight gain I could no longer skate like I use to. So I started walking at lunch to get away from work stress. After that I looked for groups and others to walk with. I had found a few but didn't feel at home with them so I walked alone. Then one day about halfway through 2012 I found the SA Sparkpage, saw they were training for a half-marathon and decided to walk with them as I had never done one before and then it hit me, I had found my new thing! Walking became that part of me I was missing. Walking has helped me with stress, found something I like doing and it's helping me with weight loss, improved my self confidence, met some wonderful new friends, gained a new family member and has changed my mind set on facing challenges.

So if I'm posting all over the place about walking with everyone and you see I have 3, 4, 5,... walks planed in a week. Don't worry, I'm ready for the challenge and I don't do this to brag I do this because I love it. Being able to turn negative into positive and keep going is what inspires others. I have been inspired by many of you and can't thank some of you enough for giving me the strength and courage to do what I have done and to continue. So walking with you, training with you and anything else I can do is my way of saying thanks.

Apr 27 2013 - 27 mile walk from NW SA to Randolph AFB(This is dedicated to my wife and all those who inspire me)
??? 2014 - complete a marathon in around 5hours (i think. more to come on this one)
??? 2015 - Complete an ultra-marathon (50K)

??? 2016 - Another Ultra 100K

Call me crazy, but I'm just trying to cram what we all do in a few months into one day.

    Walking is a doable exercise that helps weight loss - stress relief - but I just can't feel the sadness to walk without your beloved pet. 12 years is a hard loss - I love my pooch who is turning 11 this years and I see him slowing down now more than ever when I do a long walk

    Once I get swimming down, which I'm hoping to start learning in March, I would like to do
    npage.htm in 2015. I think this would be a real test and fun as well.

    James, it has been really wonderful to be able to walk with you! I really couldn't have gone through 2 half-marathons without your strong pacing, and I value your friendship!

    I admire what you've accomplished and look forward to seeing you successfully accomplish your goals! Not sure that Terry and I will be here for the ultras--but we'll help however we can! Keep up the wonderful effort!

    Personally, I think you're smart enough to feel for injuries along the way. If you're not getting hurt, no point in stopping! You're doing fantastic and are a real inspiration!

    Sounds like a great plan to me! I hope to do as many miles on the bike as I can this year! I have one metric century and 2 150milers I plan to do.

    Just keep on walking! I get the same reaction from people, including my wife, but they are getting used to it because I'm not stopping.
