Whenever I see the word "streaking" I remember the '70s fad of people taking off their clothes and running around in public places. And then that funny Ray Stevens song, "The Streak" starts going through my head for the rest of the day.

Hello, everybody, this is your action news reporter with all the news
that is news across the nation, on the scene at the supermarket. There
seems to have been some disturbance here. Pardon me, sir, did you see
what happened?

Yeah, I did. I's standin' overe there by the tomaters, and here he
come, running through the pole beans, through the fruits and vegetables,
nekkid as a jay bird. And I hollered over t' Ethel,
I said, "Don't look, Ethel!"
But it was too late...."

On Spark, of course, streaking refers to an unbroken string of postive choices. I keep track of a few streaks. My running at least 12 miles a week streak is probably two years long now...I haven't checked for a while. My 3,000 fitness minutes in a month streak will hit three years in March. Fitness is the fun and easy part for me. Eating well...not so much.

Way back in 2010 when I started on Spark, I began to track water and freggie consumption, as well as sleep. I had at least 5 fruits and vegetables each day 88% of the days in 2012. I had at least 8 glasses of water 95% of the days in 2012. I only hit 8 hours of sleep on 51% of the nights in 2012.

For 2013, I'm shooting for a 365 day streak for both freggies and water. And I'm hoping to get my sleep hours in at least 75% of the nights. So far, I'm finding these goals really motivating. And since I'm really working on keeping in calorie range too, getting in the fruits and veg means I sometimes have to give up things that aren't so healthy. So it's a win-win.

Let's hear it for streaking!

    Those are some wonderful streaks already. Your plans for 2013 sound even better, though... especially the sleep. I was just reading the other day that people typically got about 10 hours of sleep per night before electricity and now we average somewhere around 6.5. Yikes!

    I am laughing at this! I was just about 7 years old and in a fashion show for Saks 5th Ave and a streaker ran across the stage during the bathing suit portion, and I was not yet on stage so I missed it! That song has always been a favorite of mine - and I wonder how many people read your blog and had no idea what you were talking about! ha!

    It is great that you have exercise at a point where it is routine.

    Sleep is so important, as are fregies - so those are great streaks to track.
