Ohhh snap...it's getting real!

Monday, January 14, 2013

So, with some prodding from a fellow sparker, (Ang emoticon ) I'm going to start blogging more....it's time to get real.

At 41, I've hit my all-time highest weight. I'm 293. I'm down a pound from last week, which was my highest weight ever. I'm in very poor health. My life style has been very sedentary. My self-esteem is at its lowest.

Today has been 13 years since I lost my mom. She was overweight, had poor health, and a sedentary lifestyle. She was only 55.

This is not what I want for my Ladybug emoticon

Today I had an epiphany. emoticon So simple, yet took me years to realize....I don't have to live the life my mom lived.

Although she was one of the most intelligent people I ever knew, she was also one of the most self-destructive. She was a recovering alcoholic, a long-time smoker and she didn't exercise. She had diabetes and OA. She passed from a stroke.

Today I started physical therapy for my Sciatica. I also made an appointment with the eye doctor. I have an appointment with my primary doctor in a couple weeks, and I just saw my Rheumatologist last week. I still need to see a dentist. Although I have depression, I don't think that it's to the point where I need to see a therapist. I think exercising, keeping in contact with my support system and losing weight will help in that area of my life.

Today I decided not to live the life my mom did. I want a healthier life. I want a longer life. I want a more active life. And it starts now!

Six weeks later --- How's your new life going?

I didn't exactly make a New Year's resolution, but on 2 Jan I started a new streak of working out to a Leslie Sansone WATP DVD. I now have 60 days in. I did at least 10 minutes a day in January, at least 15 minutes in February, and I'm doing at least 20 minutes in March. So far, so good, although the 20 minute minimum is getting to be a real pain (in the upper back -- go figure!).

I hope things are going well with you!

I think you have a good idea what you need to do and are starting to take the steps you need to achieve those goals. Take one day at a time, and make lots of small goals that you can easily accomplish. Blogging is very therapeutic and you will find tons of support here (SP) from people that share lots of the same issues. I went to the Dr. yesterday so that I could start taking the right steps toward my health. Take care and be strong!!! emoticon emoticon

I feel terrible knowing you are having a rough patch in your life.
Blogging will help sort out you feelings...such as your fear of your mortality. I been feeling it too. Especially with my b-day just passing. I am now 46yo and I am not where I want to be physically, financially or career wise.., the list goes on and on.
I get a full check up this January 23. I do need to make a eye doctor appointment too.

Good that you have a supportive family and nieces and nephews that spend time with you. I get very lonely at times, especially without my brother.

    You can do this!
