Trying to decide when to join a gym...

So I'm down 11 pounds! Yay :). I'm finding it a little easier to get around now...still not great but better. I'm trying to decide when to join the gym....I was thinking I should probably wait until I'm down to 300 but I don't know. I really am not sure how hard I should or can push myself. I want to get in shape as well as lose this weight but I don't want to cause more harm than good....what do you guys think? I also have some social anxiety and I'm nervous about people staring at me because my size. There probably won't be any other big girls there...Maybe I should invest in my own workout stuff at home for now....lol. I don't know...

    Great job on losing the 11 pounds! I also have social anxieties, and the idea of being all sweaty and flip flappy in front of strangers is enough to make me not want to join a gym, lol. So I understand :)

    Exercise isn't always fun, and if the idea of "social" exercise makes you uncomfortable you are probably less likely to do it. I say find something you can do at home until the idea of a gym doesn't seem so iffy.

    Beachbody.com has some seriously awesome at-home programs, for all different body types. There is a watered down version of P90X called Power 90 for strength building if that's your thing. My personal favorite is Turbo Jam which is cardio kickboxing (900 calories burned in 45 minutes!). They have plenty of less intense programs too. Usually the only equipment you need other than the DVD's are resistance bands or a yoga ball.

    Losing weight is tough, make things as easy on yourself as you can. There's SO many inexpensive at home options out there.

    Thanks yall for the input...im leaning toward the home gym thing...but i like the pool at gym we have in town. Idk lol

    Have you thought of going to Curves? It is a very friendly atmosphere and everyone is very accepting of each other. (at least at the 2 branches I've been to) I am intimidated by the gym, so this was a good compromise for me.

    Do what feels right to you. I too have social anxieties, especially in a setting like a gym, but loved when I went (would still go but no longer in the budget). Everyone is there doing their own thing and working on their goals. However if you feel to anxious, and like you couldn't/wouldn't go a home gym could be great (or a great way to get started)!
