Biking Diaries: Week 1

Monday, January 14, 2013

I recently bought a bike that I have been eyeing for a very long time. Its nothing fancy though soon I will invest in a better bike. Its a cheapy Huffy from Walmart that a bought myself for Christmas. I have not been on a bike in years! Its so much fun, but its like my body is working against me. My nose runs like crazy everytime I work out, which is annoying especially when I go for a run ( which I am also a beginner ). Who wants snot flying out of their nose everytime they try to breathe?! Not this girl! I bought a bike bag and carry tissue with me. Another problem...biking is a pain in the butt-literally! I need to invest in a seat pad or a new seat. Whenever I sit on my bike to go for a ride, I have to ease on to it because it hurts sooo bad. Butt pain and snotty nose aside, I love my bike! Each week I want to blog about my progress and goals I set for my bike riding. Yesterday, as an official start to a new week, I wanted to bike up a hill that I always walked my bike up. Guess what? I did it! I was so happy I could not focus on how out of breathe I was, I was just happy that I met that small goal. The entire way up I kept telling myself " I can do this!" and I did. My next goal to meet by next Sunday is to bike to a trail near my house ( about 5-6 miles) and back. Eventually I want to be able to bike to the trail and then proceed to ride that trail:) I forgot how strenuous bike riding can be. Hopefully with these small goals it wont be as strenuous, but fun. It is fun but I know it can be funner ( is that even a word?)

If there is anybody reading this blog, what are some of your biking stories? If biking isn't your thing, then what is and what stories do you have about your journey? Have a great week everybody:)

Way to get it going. Okay, first off, snot will always be there on cold days. Solution: cover one nostril and blow. Now repeat with the other nostril. Walaa, snot gone (for now). Repeat as necessary. Secondly, your butt is going to hurt until it gets used to riding. Once you've put in the miles, the pain will self-destruct. Hang tough and enjoy.
