Return to the Crossfit Box

Sunday, January 13, 2013

After knee surgery, 2 months on crutches and 6 months in recovery away from both running and Crossfit I was finally cleared on December 29th. It took me a few weeks to actually get into the box though, I had been gone so long, gained weight, lost muscle and it was a new box so I had a lot to think about. In the end I realized that there was a point I wasn't sure I would ever be able to go back to the things I loved so I needed to go back because I could. I joined my original coach Neil's new box and started Thursday, it was hard, there were tears, but I did it and went back Friday. I am deadlifting at half of what I used to, I cannot do pull ups, my push ups have to be off and elevated bar and I am sure I will find many more issues, but in time I will get better and stronger and hopefully surpass the athlete I once was.

It all comes back quicker than you think. I had surgery five years ago (different kind) and thought I would never be able to do what I did before - I got there and then some. Kind of like your body "remembers". It will happen - just keep at it!

OMG. So needed to read this right now.

I did CrossFit for years, then had surgery early last year. I haven't been back. I had surgery again in September and finally started INSANITY on January 7th. Can I say unfit!?

In just 8 days, I've seen great improvement, but it is going to be an uphill climb. One day at a time, is all I can think of now. The cardio work required with INSANITY is at least getting me use to all the breathing required with working hard.

I'm on my way, and I'm accepting I've taken almost a year off. All my form looks pretty crappy, but each time I concentrate on something else, the depth of the push up, holding in my core, pushing from hips, etc.

    You WILL get there.
