I hope you never lose your sense of wonder (and WOW)

"Astonishing stuff appears in our lives constantly. We just have to be open for business." Anne Lamott

One of the simplest of prayers, "Wow," is often uttered with a sharp intake of breath, when we can't think of another way to capture the sight of shocking beauty or destruction, an unexpected insight or flash of grace.

"Wow" means we are not dull to wonder. We haven't become numb to it or apathetic.

I don't WANT or CHOOSE to lose that child like awe and ability to be WOWed by even the most simple things. I am told that I am childlike in some sense at my giddiness over even the most mundane things. I don't WANT to become apathetic about sunrises or a whale in the ocean or finding a piece of cobalt blue sea glass as I beach comb. Heck, I've been WOWed by a piece of brown sea glass if the truth be known. Sea glass WOWS me.

Wow is about having your mind blown by the mesmerizing or the miraculous - a hummingbird lighting on a flower outside your window or my friend Camille Engel's works that ALWAYS WOW me. (OILPAINTER here on Spark)

I am WOWed by so many things and hope and pray that I never lose that childlike love of the serendipitous, miraculous and mesmerizing of even day to day moments.

WOW because you are ALMOST but not quite speechless.

Anne Lamott taught me to consider uppercase Wows: Fireworks for instance and lowercase Wows: fresh, clean cotton sheets (both smell and feel).

Fireworks and the flag of my glorious and FREE nation? WOWOW and goosebumps....ALWAYS!

What about super storm Sandy and her devastation? Mother Nature is an uppercase all caps HOLY SH*T WOWOW - devastating and yet amazing. The forces of nature are like that. Mother Nature is a force to be reckoned with and holy cow WOW'ed.

I once went to Yellowstone two summers in a row. The first was full of firsts and wows and then over the year it burned to the ground and the next time I was there new verdant green grass and trees were prevailing and overwhelmingly and WOW take your breath away.

Yesterday when the doors were preparing to open for the Biggest Loser Challenge (aka BLC) the comments, enthusiasm and excitement - that was WOW.

Yeppers, I'm a life is full of WOW prayers and moments. How about you? What takes your breath away and WOWS you?

Here is a song that I also love that makes me think along these same lines...

I hope you never lose your sense of wonder....
