positivity, its a choice

Friday, January 11, 2013

Wednesday night I went to another very crowded derby practice and as i skated i could feel my bad attitude lift. Then, during a hitting drill another skater I didn't know told me that I elbowed every single person I hit in the drill. I skated away without saying anything, but in my head I was thinking "who the F%$@ is this B*%#! and where does she get off telling me to watch my elbows". I've been skating with my league for over 6 years so maybe I think I don't need anybody's feedback/criticism. But I decided to take it in the spirit which (I hope) it was intended and I made a concerted effort to hold my elbows in for the rest of the drill. Then I shared my experience with some of my "veteran" friends and they all said they would have just ignored her. They congratulated me on focusing on positivity and making an effort to see past my own biases. Hopefully they will follow my example!
