Who Says Yoga Isn’t A Workout? ...

Thursday, January 10, 2013

Last nights’ baby-step work out was “The Biggest Loser: Weight loss Yoga.” As Bob Harper says in the video, “Who says yoga isn’t a workout?” Because that DVD is definitely a workout, my arms, legs, and core feel it today. Which is a good thing right? The muscles that haven’t been worked in over a year are being worked again.

Rachael and I, even though we really didn’t want to, did the Yoga DVD at like 8:30 last night. We’re doing small increments of time until we work up to longer. So it was a half hour of Yoga courtesy of Bob Harper and the Biggest Loser team. One day I will be able to do downward facing dog and plank like Allie, currently I’m more like Heba! Lol!

So Toby also decided to get in the spirit and do some yoga. Or at least help me do my yoga. While in downward facing dog, he thought we were playing and he came over to me and tried going under me while I was in the position. LOL! Talk about a workout then. I was trying to stay in position all while laughing and dodging Toby’s kisses! Later in the workout while in triangle position he kept going through my legs.

I never realized how big I really was until I remembered how I felt doing that exact workout when I was heavier. I used to think that when you started a diet and exercise plan, they had to be started together. Now I’m not so sure that is a good idea, at least for me.

At my heaviest, I was 303.2. That’s big. I was a size 26/28 in pants and a 22/24 in some shirts. Some I had to go larger, but I was mostly able to wear my 22/24 shirts comfortably. I’m now a 22/24 in shirts, for sure; the 26/28 shirts that I own are WAY to large on me. I am also in a size 24 pants, on my way to a 22.

I tried doing the workout at my heaviest. I couldn’t get through the warm up without being winded. That’s a shame. It embarrassed me. Now, after I lost 37 pounds, I’ve done the workout again. It’s not that hard. Yes, I am sore. Yes, I did get a workout and yes, it was challenging; but I could get through the 30 minutes it takes to warm up, workout, and cool down. I didn’t have to take a break because I was winded.

I guess that’s what is called a non-scale victory. Yes I have had a NSV in the first ten days of 2013. Let’s see how many of those I can have through out the year.

I’ve also been seeing on everyone’s spark pages mini goals and rewards. I think that I want to do this as well. I need something to look forward to and those goals will work I believe. So here are my mini goals, and rewards for reaching the goal.

266.2 - Starting Weight
255 - New Shirt from Clothes Mentor (Resale Shop, Cheap prices)
245 - Pedicure
235 - New Jeans from Clothes Mentor
225 - Haircut
215 - Zip-lining in Smokey Mountains (Going in June hopefully I'll be that weight)
205 - Resell old clothes and buy new with the money
195 - Running shoes
185 - Massage
175 -
170 - White Ink Tattoo
165 -
160 -
155 -Goal Weight - Buy new clothes from a store I couldn't before.

As you can see I’m at a loss for some rewards, any ideas would be appreciated!

As you get used to the yoga moves, don't forget that a large part of the workout comes from controlling the muscles and tightening them as you hold the position. As you get stronger, you'll be able to tighten the muscles even more. And anyone who doesn't think yoga is a workout has never done it the right way.

Toby is cute! He's excited to see you both exercising and he wants to join in! Keep up the good work!

Yoga is definitely a workout! Good for you for doing it.

You might want to also have rewards just for consistently sticking with your workout and eating plan, too!
