Very long day

Wednesday, January 09, 2013

I'm on a two-day business trip. It is a 3-hour drive so I figured I should get up at 5:30 - way too early for me!
I woke up before the alarm at 4:30. I stayed in bed, hoping to to get back to sleep.
When I realized that was not going to happen, I climbed out of bed.
About 2 inches of snow fell during the night, it was o oC (32 oF), the sky black, no wind.

Doesn't sound very inviting, does it? : )
But I know weather is always much better when I'm out running than how it looked like from the window, so off I went at 5:15.
The black cloudy sky was beautiful above the whiteness, and the weather was pleasantly mild. The two running shirts felt OK, I wasn't cold during the warm-up walk, even a bit warm during the run.
The streets were empty. I ran 30 minutes around the park.
Running on fresh snow is safe and comfortable. Someone here in a blog comment wrote it is like running on a sandy beach. I never ran on a sandy beach but I imagine it is like this.

It was still dark when I got home at 6:00.
I left home at 7:00 and arrived on time to meet the clients at 10:00.
Had a long, tiring working day, but it was not stressful and I made good progress.
I arrived at the hotel at 19:30. This is the first time I stay at this hotel, there is an elevator which brings directly to the swimming pools - too bad I was in a hurry in the morning and forgot to pack my swimming suit. Next time I'll bring it for sure!

After eating my packed dinner I talked a few minutes on the phone with my husband and about an hour with my daughter. Now it is time for an early night.

It's great that you used the time well instead of tossing and turning in the bed. emoticon

Sounds like a lovely morning. I like running when the temp is between -5 & -15C, depending on the wind. 0 is almost too warm. lol I like running in fresh snow too. It is safe and comfortable. When it gets icy, I put grippers on my runners for extra traction.

That sounds like a beautiful run! I'm glad you made good use of your time even though I'm sure it seemed at first that you'd rather be sleeping. It's also good that you got in a nice workout on a day when you were stuck sitting for so long.

Running in the morning after waking up naturally before the alarm is wonderful. I can't speak to running in the snow, but running in the dark without much traffic is relaxing. And 0°C with no wind is great running weather.
