Now that the holidays are over...

Oops, it's yet again been a month since I last updated this. I kind of fell off the blogging bandwagon, both here and on my other blog. The holidays were BUSY, okay? Despite the busy season, I'm glad [?] to report that my weight remained constant throughout the holidays. Well, not glad that it stayed the same, per say, but glad that it didn't go UP. I'm still stuck at the same spot I've been for the better part of four months now... but I'm at least at the lower end of that 3 pound plateau, so I'm optimistic in thinking that I'm finally making my way out of it [I *have* seen a lower number, twice now, but it never sticks around for more than a day]. And honestly, I'm not too worried: I got stuck here, almost exactly here, the last time around too [that time for about six months!]. As long as I keep with it, I'll eventually make my way out of it.

And, honestly, as long as the number doesn't go up, I'm fine. I *want* the number to go down, obviously, but I'm comfortable at this weight for the time being. It's not where I want to be in the long run, but I'm fine with sitting and taking a breather.

Fitness wise, I've *finally* started back up with strength training. [Ooh, that just reminded me to go do my crunches for the night! Be right back! Okay, those are done.] Anyway, I'm doing strength training again finally. I know, I shouldn't have stopped but... things happen. Right now I'm just doing very basic stuff [crunches, pushups, squats, etc.] and trying to get my muscles back to where they were a few months ago. Once I'm back there, I'm going to [once again] start P90X. I was really enjoying it back in September... until I just stopped doing it suddenly. Oops!

I'm still keeping up with running [my bike's been mostly put away for the winter, now that the roads are icy] and actually, I just got brand new running shoes on Sunday! I went to the running store and got professionally fitted [verdict: I walk on the outside of my feet, which I knew, but it's not too bad] and ended up with Brooks Ghosts as my new shoes:

They're a birthday present from my mom, she said she'd put $100 towards new running shoes. They were $110 and I actually had a $10 off coupon [well, I have quite a few for this store, because I get one in every race packet haha] so I didn't pay anything! Yay! I took them out for their first run this morning before work:

And as you can see, they *don't* match the rest of my running outfit! My older running shoes are pink and black so... yeah. But actually, my other running shorts are blue and purple so they match those. I just don't have a jacket to go along with it. Ah well!

I was running behind schedule this morning so I only ended up doing one mile before having to get ready for work, but it was a nice way to break in the shoes. I hadn't run outside since Christmas morning, so my lungs were a bit shocked, but they got over it. ;)

Tomorrow's supposed to be almost 50 out [in the middle of winter! Poppycock!], and it's my day off [well, I only work 2-3 days a week so most days are my days off] so I'm planning to go for a nice long run. After I relace these new shoes because the way they currently are just isn't doing it for me.

So... that's what's been going on with me.

Oh, and I don't make New Year's Resolutions for various reasons but I have a few things I'm looking forward to in the coming year [or mainly, before I turn 30. I tend to reflect on my accomplishments and goals at this time of year not because of the New Year but because of my birthday. And next year's birthday is a big one!]. 1) The big one is training for and running a half marathon. It's a big step from 5Ks but I honestly think I'm ready [or at least will be after a few months of training. I'm ready to start training to be ready, at least].

2) I'm still just a volunteer at the library, but rumors abound that I might start getting paid by summer. I'm *definitely* looking forward to that. And they've already started increasing my hours there, which I love, and I'm starting to make friends through my work there too. So, this year, I'm looking forward to having actual offline friends in the area, and maybe getting paid for this job that I already love despite no pay.

3) I've been doing a lot of work on my house. Well, not a *lot* lot but what seems like a lot to me. I already put in a considerable amount of effort to keep it clean [with five cats and lots of carpeting, this is a constant battle] and I've been working on making it look *pretty*, too. I recently put together my home library [sacrificing the large workout room and relegating my treadclimber to the smaller room because I have a LOT of books], and I'm finally getting new carpeting for the living and dining rooms downstairs [the old carpet is about 40 years old, no amount of cleaning will EVER get it super clean again, it's incredibly worn out in places to the point where the floor is showing through, and it's an UGLY UGLY brown]. Oh, and the major pipeline clog is finally fixed [it was full of tree roots!] so now I can wash dishes and stuff without flooding the basement. Ahh, old houses, you're so full of "charm". Anyway, this year, I'm looking forward to having a nice, functional AND aesthetically pleasing house where I can have friends [see #2] over and not have to apologize for the horrible 70s decor.

So, those are the three big things I'm looking forward to in 2013. But mostly the half marathon training. Because! I'M REALLY EXCITED ABOUT IT.

    I have old house issues too. It's amazing what crazy decor and home improvement projects were thought of over the years. Even with my cats, I keep it in decent shape, but like you, I really want to take the time to make it look nicer. I'm hoping to at least get some painting done by Spring and then tackle some bigger projects in late summer/fall.
