I lost a dear friend to a heart attack on the weekend, so now I'm getting real again!

Tuesday, January 08, 2013

This past Sunday, I lost my wonderful friend, Wayne to a massive heart attack. He was a very large man, and was constantly suffering from shortness of breath. While outside shovelling the snow from his sidewalks he collapsed and was found by his wife when she went outside to see what was taking him so long. He was only 38 years old and was a wonderful husband and dad to his little 9 year old girl.

I had been attempting to get back on board with the exercise and eating right thing but had not yet become totally re-committed yet, this loss however has hit us very hard and has alerted me once again of how important my journey to better health is.

The Caribbean vacation is done, Christmas is done and the new year has arrived, and it's back to it for me again.

Thru all of these wonderful times, I did only put on 5 lbs of the 75 lbs. I lost in 2012, but it's about 10 lbs. too much, so time to get serious for 2013 now. It's time to shed that 10 lbs. and work on more loss as the year moves forward.

Just a short comment for those who live in sunny places without the white Christmas. Honestly, Bing Crosby lived in California, never likely saw a White Christmas. It is not all it's cracked up to be!! Travel is HELL, weather is COLD and uncomfortable, and you see heart attacks quite a bit as shovelling the SH**T is very hard work ! So, be lucky if you have a green Christmas, there are lots of Canadians that would trade you places in a minute, in this case Wayne would have been one of them!! Be careful what you wish for I guess is a lesson to remember (unless it's wishing for a healthy life) !! We will all emoticon Wayne, may the angels take great care of you and may you teach them how being a GREAT human being has touched so many of us here!

Sorry you've lost your friend and that his wife and daughter have lost their anchor. Last year I lost one of my best friends to a heart attack-she had been about 400 lbs for years and could never stay on a program long enough to lose the weight tho she did get around quite well and kept real busy. It's a hard way to learn.

I am sorry for your loss, too! My DH, almost lost his life, because of his weight. Since THAT incident, we have BOTH joined the healthy band wagon! I'm 5 # to goal & he has another 50 to go! We are both doing SO much better. Sometimes it takes an incident like this to shake us up enough to "be real" as you say! Good for you for recognizing this. Maybe his life will continue in your getting healthy. Just a thought.

Again, I am sorry you lost your friend!
