Simple Diet Journal #33 -- Cake update

A few days ago I wrote about my weekend challenge -- having to bake a very big chocolate cake and attend a very big celebration. Thanks so much to you wonderful folks on Spark -- your encouragement meant a lot -- and really helped!

So . . . I'm really happy to say -- the cake did not break or shake me!

Frosting turned out to be a bigger challenge, never really thought about how I often taste it to see how much more to add or change. Never realized that before -- good to know for future reference. I decided to measure a very small amount -- we're talking microscopic! -- and gauge from that. Also, one of the frostings (this was quite the cake -- the glaze requires a 90 degree temp to create the shiniest sheen) turned out to be effortless as far as frostings go -- never had to taste it all.

A few things really helped me meet my very tiny, little, small goal of making it through this foodie weekend without turning back the clock on my current progress:

1. Posting the first blog. Verbalizing my goal made me want to meet it even more.
2. Working out. And, then hearing very encouraging words from the spin teacher on Saturday:
"Stay in control of your ride" -- that stuck with me throughout the weekend. A keeper.
3. Deciding to eat very simple -- salad and protein shakes and light fruit
4. The encouraging words on the blog -- felt the support and spurred me on to want to be able to say: It went well! Thanks so much!

Each step along the way -- each challenge we meet -- no matter how big or small -- gives us a lot to learn from and grow. The ones we meet. The ones we slip up on. Just gotta keep on going, growing, and learning. Love that!

Off to roast some winter veggies from the farmer's market.
