I'm in a silly mood right now. I was thinking about what good things might be in store for us now that we are in the year 2013. We can all consider ourselves to be "survivors" now. After all, we've made it through 12/12/12 AND 12/21/12... narrowly escaping the Zombie Apocalypse. --Whew! Aren't we AMAZING!? Yay us. We've even made it almost a week into 2013 now. The only New Year's celebration we're left to anticipate is the coming Year of the Snake, which starts on February 10th, just five short weeks away from today. (It's still Sunday night where I'm writing this.)

Maybe the Mayans got it right, but they were just a little off in their timing. They were, after all, whizzes at math. They couldn't be entirely wrong, could they? No, I'm not saying that the predicted world destruction is just around the corner. I'm saying it has already happened, and just a little earlier than the Mayans had calculated.

I'm not suggesting that we're already dead or that we are now living in some alternate reality. So, what was this earth shattering, eon-ending change that has taken place? --Although if you've been on SparkPeople for a while, it may not have phased you in the least. I'm sure it has had much more impact on others; those pitiful ones who have not yet heard the good news of SparkPeople, but are sorely in need of it. What is the entity that is now dead, but has promised to rise again? (There's a hint in that last sentence.)

Ponder it for a while, then scroll down for the answer....

I'll even sing the Jeopardy! song while you give it some thought....

Do dee do do, do dee do, do dee doo dee do de do do do....

Okay, here it is:

It's... of course... the demise of the Hostess Company. "Rise" again, yeah, it's a bread company.

So, what earth-shattering changes have happened in your life since you joined SparkPeople? Do tell....

Great blog! I am sorry for anyone who has lost a job, but I remember--many decades ago---getting hooked on Hostess products because they knew how to appeal, visually, to a child. And so what if there was never any real chocolate taste in those cup-cakes--the squiggle was too cute to resist!

@SUSIEMT I'm sorry about the recent job losses that have taken place in your state. I wish everyone only all the best. I'm hoping for an end the current bad economy. Here's to new beginnings and much success in 2013!

Very good but this episode in life cuts a bit close to home. They are located in my state so this puts many people out of a job. To bad they couldn't get a healthy recipe. Also the workers and union thought the company was bluffing when they said they would either come to an agreement or close it down. Anyway,I digress. Can't think of anything off hand. Just glad the Mayan's were off in their math. Happy New Year!

I don't think it's earth shattering, but I now own and wear a pair of bright pink skinny jeans.

Well here in Australia we - maybe I should say I - am not aware of a company called the 'Hostess Company'; although through some American TV shows, I have heard of the cake called a 'Twinkie'. You are right that people who have been on SparkPeople for a while would not be aware of it. We have learned to make more informed choices. Thanks for the info.
