Get Ready...Get Set....GO!!!

I'm working really hard at changing my thought patterns! While I can be very positive and almost disgustingly upbeat (ask my non morning friends! *LOL*), I can be equally negative and oh so down! It drives me crazy! One of my first goals this year is to work on controlling, if not ejecting, the negativity from my thoughts. It won't be easy, but I KNOW I can do it!

I started my new year today and at the moment am very excited about it. I need to make some serious changes in my life (Lifestyle?) to get where I WANT to be.

Goals this far:

Turn off the TV! No more having it on for noise or company. Unless there is some thing I really wish to watch, it is not going to be on. (This will be REALLY difficult for me, but I KNOW I can do it.)

Everyday I will do some form of cardio for at least 15 minutes. Be it walking on the treadmill, dancing, walking in place when I do have the tv on, doing one of my DVDs. There is no excuse not to move during my day!

I am going to try yoga. I have a DVD of yoga for big girls(Along with the book) and I am going to see if I like it. I am going to give it a fair chance and not quit because I can't do something the first, second or third time I attempt it...

I will be much more conscious of what food I bring into the house. I will consciously choose healthy food and will jut as consciously decide to have a small treat every now and then. I will avoid bringing into my home, my known trigger foods.

I will track my food honestly every day.

This is a good start and I am truly excited. I just the little while it has taken me to type this down, I feel optimistic and a sense of joy for doing something good and positive.

So now, off to have a bite of breakfast and attack my room. I have a whole other set of goals that are not health related, however I know I will most certainly reap the benefits of feeling mentally and physically accomplished and contented that I did what I set out to do! Everything is connected, isn't it.

    I'm trying to eliminate negative thoughts too, especially about other people ^^; When I catch myself thinking something bad about someone, I'm trying to replace it with a good thought... or if I can't, think about something else positive instead! emoticon

    @BETSY: If the TV isn't on, music is...I love Sunday mornings when our NPR Classical Music partner plays Sunday Baroque until noon.

    Ah, the tv, probably my downfall as well. But I like the idea of working out - walking in place, etc while watching tv.

    It is a very good idea to write up your goals like this-- clarity is a big step toward success!

    I am jealous of that yoga video-- I have a yen to get back to yoga, but I have been pretty intimidated by the sets that are available. I am also absolutely terrified of group yoga classes: I went to one years ago with super-fit-marathoner sister-- but it was a Hot Yoga class. I kept up better than I thought I would, but it was gross and I was really physically uncomfortable in the heat (I hate being hot!). The universe took mercy on me by striking my sister down with sudden-onset-stomach-flu, and so I got to bail early without looking like I was the weak one! (Not so good for her, though. Poor sister! I think she is allergic to family gatherings: she always gets some weird sort of sick at the holidays!) In any case-- I used to love yoga loooong ago, but I need a gentle/modified routine until I get a bit fitter.

    Your goals are great. Clear, practicable steps. Good luck with the TV-- have you tried a radio? Having the radio on NPR as the background noise for my life is soothing and often amusing, without being overly intrusive.

    We can do this this year-- and once we have these habits down, it will become easier to keep them up as lifetime health habits!
