Good Decisions for Today

Well, I haven't blogged in quite a while. I haven't been following the Spark program in a while (more than a year?), and I gained weight. I haven't been avoiding SparkPeople entirely - I have been reading some articles and the emails I get - but I haven't been participating in SparkTeams or reading blogs. I think I've felt guilty (and ashamed) that I haven't been living a healthy lifestyle for so long and have gained back all the weight I lost plus about 10 pounds. I struggle with motivation and feel depressed sometimes as I struggle to deal with the emotions of being unemployed.

All that being said, I decided to write this blog because today I made a few good decisions:

1. I sometimes walk with a friend from my church on Saturday mornings. We meet at the church and walk for about an hour through a nice neighborhood and through Palisades Park which overlooks the ocean. The walk time usually seems to go by fairly quickly because we talk about all kinds of things going on in our lives while we walk. Sometimes, through a miscommunication, one of us my show up at the church to walk and the other doesn't show up. Usually, my friend will walk the route anyway for her exercise for the day, but I usually just go home if she doesn't show up. Today, I walked the route by myself after realizing that she wasn't showing up. It was a nice morning, and I stopped to watch hummingbirds briefly and looked at the rose garden in the park, and walked close to the fence so I could see the beach most of the time that I was in the park. It was a great walk, and ended up being about 60 minutes of walking.

2. I decided to track my nutrition today. I've tracked my breakfast so far. Hopefully, I'll remember to track the other food I eat. I haven't tracked much over the last couple years, and I tend to track breakfast and lunch and leave out my snacks and dinner (the times when I tend to get way off track).

3. I decided to write this blog. I had some Facebook status about the walk churning in my head, but decided to make a longer blog post ... and get some SparkPoints in the process. emoticon

I hope everyone else is making some good decisions today. We just need to take it one day at a time, right?

    Good for you. I also got myself off track but have started tracking my food again and find it encouraging. We can do this.

    Welcome back, happy New Year, and I hope this walk was the "spark" that will get you back on the right track!! (I'm just getting back on track myself...so cliche this time of year I know!)

    One day - even one hour at a time if needed! If tracking on SP is a problem, get a little notebook to keep in your pocket with a short pencil. If you write it all down it really makes a statement!

    And - it is good to see you back on SP!
