Last year

Friday, January 04, 2013

Well, last year was eventful. I was tired of my skin tight clothes and avoiding mirrors so I made some changes. I started by changing my eating habbits. I replaced my morning Pop tarts with oatmeal and my frozen lunches, I replaced with a salad. I was looking for low calorie and low fat recipes and stumbled upon Sparkpeople. After joining and spending my free time on the SP site, I learned I was missing out on my protein intake and what goal nutrients I should aim for. This has been a very useful tool for me. I have experimented with my food intake and found how to meet my nutrition goals. After about a month of getting the nutrition together, I added an elliptical trainer. I was struggling to do this over 5 minutes but eventually worked my way up to 45 minutes. I got a little bored with the elliptical trainer. I started walking 3 miles 3-6 days a week. The weird thing was my body kept telling me to run. I could not run very far and was getting discouraged when a SP friend left a comment on one of my blogs about a c25k program. After trying it, I got addicted. I now know all the trails around my house. I noticed that running took alot of stress away. It made me feel peaceful when I noticed the animals around me, the leaves on the trees changing color and falling off in front of me. I found a whole new reason to run and forgot about the reason I started running.

I did learn alot this year thanks to SP. I came along way this year, lost close to 30 lbs, learned how to run, had fun buying new clothes. I have noticed my family and friends even try to help out: eat healthy places when meeting for dinner, giving me a treadmill, and I got alot of new running gear for Christmas. Toward the end of the year I was losing motivation. After reflecting back and opening my Christmas presents I realize I have a renewed motivation to hit the road running. I sure don't want to disappoint anyone that wants to see me healthy and happy. I figure the running gear, treadmill and dinners at subway instead of a pizza meltdown were their way of sayin, "Way to go, I am proud of you."

So after all this rambling I am going to start the year out new. I even updated my goals and posted them to remind me every time I look at my sparkpage.

Here we go Sparkfriends..................
