Dad ended up calling 911 on himself........

What a way to start the new year off , I called my dad around 2 pm to say I'd be coming over with some spaghetti and my heart dropped when I heard him say that he had to call the ambulance!
He said he came out of the bathroom and wasn't feeling well and there was no oxygen coming out of his hose and that the living room was really warm and he went to shut off the electric heater and he felt like he was going to drop....
He went to his cell to call me but ALL OF HIS CONTACT NUMBERS HAD BEEN DELETED!!!!!!!! I don't understand that I mean even if he messed around with it not knowing what he was doing he couldn't of deleted over 30 numbers all at once!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
So thank god we got him to the VA back in August and got him the 911 call button , he called it now for my dad to send for an ambulance he really had to be scared cause he's very stubborn! I was glad that he was okay and even more proud that he used the 911 call button because I never thought he would and so I was very anxious to go see him.
He doesn't look right to me , I kept asking if he was okay.... I programmed all the numbers back into his phone and put myself on speed dial ... I was with him for over 3 hrs, made sure he ate, we called the oxygen company cause the hose wasn't working right that's why he called 911 he couldn't breathe good (was shocked they didn't check his oxygen level).
I made the guy come out with a back up hose and he even gave him a new oxygen tank which makes me feel better!
My nephew is always out, he called my dad and my dad told him what happened he couldn't understand what my dad was saying I guess so I got on the phone and explained.. it was like he got mad my dad called 911!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I said he did the right thing no one was home and that's what I got him that for to use when he doesn't feel himself.
I have such a$$holes for family, they don't even care about him.... my brother knew he called 911 and didn't even let me know but he's the biggest phony a$$ out there, I think they want my dad to die.
When I was going to leave my dad said he had to go to the bathroom I made sure we stayed till he got back, I made him take his pills in front of me he was filling up his trays (he didn't want me to leave I could tell) then he used his nebulizer I of course stayed and washed out his mouth piece.
I hated to go, but at least I know he'll use the 911 caller if he needs it and I told him he did the right thing and don't u listen to anyone....
Thank god he was okay, I pray for him every night...........

Worry for parents is always a hard thing. We are more used to them taking care of us. He absolutely did the right thing. You were definately wise to get him the 911 call button. That was exactly why he needed, for instances just like that. Reassuring him that he did the right thing will make him more comfortable if another instance ever happens. It's unfortunate that other family members can't be supportive, but letting your dad know that he can count on you and always, always call 911 whenever his health is ever in question. My father used to be a volunteer EMT for our small town. Many of his calls for older people who had issues like this, and these were calls that they didn't mind going on and felt helpful and were willing to do whenever needed.
