Celebrating Christmas with surgery?
Monday, December 31, 2012
Having my appendix out over Christmas was not in my plans. After a very painful couple of days being completely miserable and unable to keep anything down, I finally went in to urgent care. It didn't take long at all to determine that my appendix needed to come out and off to the OR I went. Unfortunately it was nearly ruptured (the surgeon told me it was "oozing" and one of the worst she'd seen) I had to be completely opened up; they had to wash me out and couldn't perform the surgery laparoscopically. I spent 3 days in the hospital healing before being discharged on Christmas Eve (my birthday). I missed out on all of the family Christmas celebrations since long car rides were intolerable. My spirits were low, but I was so happy to be out of the hospital.
Recovery is coming along. I've been hurting and frustrated with my body's limits. I know that I'll be back to my active self in no time, but being limited to walking ONLY, and being unable to lift more than 15 pounds has been tough. My focus for the new year is to get healthy. I have about 4 weeks before I can return to my normal fitness routine, but in the mean time I'm going to do what I CAN. Every day gets a little easier and I know I'll be running again before I know it. As of right now I don't have a race until April and by then I should be good to go! Thank you to those of you who have wished me well!
HAPPY NEW YEAR!
