Simple Diet Journal #28 -- Realizing that I'm good at losing & gaining -- maintaining, not so much

Saturday, December 29, 2012

The title of my blog is what's on my mind today. Just as I'm re-reading Dr. Anderson's book on The Simple Diet, I'm listening again to Bob Harper's Are You Ready? He says many encouraging things in Chapter 1 -- and I'm not sure exactly what it was that made me realize: I'm good at losing weight -- I have done it quite a few times :-). I'm also clearly good at gaining weight -- which I've often focused on more than my ability to have lost weight after babies, etc. What I now know I must grow in -- is MAINTAINING my weight.

Now, while I could think that I'm jumping the gun as I'd still like to reach my goal weight dream -- I'm very aware that when I get to a certain place where I feel good, I can start to lose focus and intentionality and become more laissez-faire -- which just doesn't work for me.

So -- along with my goal for reaching my dream goal and not giving up on that, I've decided that I want to start preparing for how I'll maintain and not re-gain. And, while I've done better this time than previously -- I know there's still so much to learn.

So -- affirming what my strengths are and sticking with what I know works -- and open to learning some new insights -- I look forward to the day when I can honestly say, "I'm good at maintaining my weight and health!"

Smiles for you today!

Your words are just what I needed to hear today! I am so close to reaching my goal and I have started to think about how and if I will be able to maintain my weight loss. For almost a year, my focus has been on losing and it will surely be a transition and change of mindset for me in the coming months. Good luck and best wishes to you!
