It's been over 10 days since my last blog post -- time flies.
We hosted my parents, my sister, my boyfriend's mom, my ex-husband and his partner for Christmas this year, as we've done for the past few years. Christmas Eve we also had my uncle and cousin and my boyfriend's brother. It was fun, but also a bit stressful. We're not used to having that many people around. It was nice to have some quiet when everyone left on Boxing Day. My kids went home with my parents to spend a few days with them. My boyfriend and I spent a quiet evening with some wine and candles, and yesterday was a do nothing day. I napped, read a book, ate leftovers.
Today, however, I want to start getting some stuff done. Spent the last couple of hours getting through the several hundred emails I've ignored for the past week or so, and catching up on Sparkfriend's blogs. Now I need to clean up the house. And I want to make turkey and split pea soup with my leftover turkey and ham bones. I also have a long list of cleaning up around the house to do while my kids are away -- want to do a few things in their rooms, as well as tackle my office. Not sure it will all get done before the kids come home and I have to go back to work. We'll see how it goes.
I'm hoping to get out to Fitness Depot with me to buy some kettlebells. I've tried looking for a kettlebell class to take, and unfortunately the only one that was doable time/location wise has been cancelled. I've decided to try going it alone -- have some decent videos and resources on how to do the basic moves and will be very conscious of my form, and will start with the lighter kettlebells to avoid injury. I have quite a bit of experience with weight training, so I'm hoping that will help with learning a new technique.
So far, we have no plans for New Year's Eve, which is unusual. Friends of ours typically host a party, but it looks like they're not planning it this year. We may try to have my boyfriend's brother and his girlfriend over -- they were both sick on Christmas, so didn't stay more than an hour on Christmas Eve. I thought about doing the Resolution Run, but it's sold out. Maybe I'll do my own resolution run in the neighbourhood.
Speaking of resolutions, I'm trying to think of some goals for 2013. There are so many things I want to do, so many things to accomplish. I don't want to set myself up to fail by trying to do too much. I think I'll use the approach in the 4 Hour Work Week of setting out a few short term, and a few long term goals.
We leave for Cuba in 28 days -- very exciting!
Okay, off to clean up the kitchen and start making soup!
