Happy Boxing Day

Wednesday, December 26, 2012

Since I didn't post a blog in time to wish everyone a Merry Christmas, I'm wishing everyone a Happy Boxing Day. I'm not even sure what Boxing Day is except that it's celebrated in Europe. But I really do hope you all had a great holiday and are making plans for a great new year.

Boxing day traditionally was the day when the alms boxes in churches were opened and the contents distributed to the poor of the parish. Also, as John says, it was a day off for the servants to go visit their families, as they were needed to work on Christmas Day. They were given boxes of treats to take home with them. So now you know!
