The Gift of Family
Tuesday, December 25, 2012
Another Christmas is almost over and it has been a good one. I didn't get much in the way of material gifts but the gift I treasure most is time with family.
My brother lives 4 1/2 hours away in Virginia so we don't get down to see them much. They have a foreign exchange student that lives with them so during the school year we don't get down. Unless it is a holiday and the student goes home, which happened this Christmas. I drove my mom and sister down on Friday evening and we spent the weekend with my brother and SIL. My great niece was up from college in North Carolina and she was there for the weekend. We had Christmas dinner on Saturday and my other niece and her husband came over with their son (he is 2 months old). Little Silas was the main reason for going down, we so wanted to see him. Pictures are great but nothing beats holding the baby in your arms. We had a great stay and came home on Sunday.
Last night mom and my sister and I went to midnight mass. I am an Extrodinary Minister at my church and assist with serving communion and I served at the midnight mass. It was a beautiful service with the whole choir there as well as a trumpet player, a guitarist and 2 women playing the flute and naturally the organ. It was 2:00am when we got to bed this morning.
Today we went over to my nephew's house for dinner. He was there with his girlfriend and her 2 boys. We ate way too much food and then got the boys together to open their gifts. My mom loves to put statues and ornaments in the flower beds so my nephew went and got her this
It is a statue of the Blessed Virgin and mom loved it. We will put it in the bed out front where she can see it from her chair. We also did the traditional stupid hat and shirt christmas picture
One of the gifts we got for mom is a digital picture frame. It uses a flash drive so I can change and add pictures when I want. With her memory getting so bad I want to keep up to date pictures for her to try and help her to remember.
It was a great day and it was a great Christmas. Spending time with family is what Christmas is to me so we had the perfect Christmas this year.
