I love my birthday, even if it is 5 days before Christmas! As a little girl my parents always kept my birthday and Christmas separate. They didn't even put up a tree until after I had celebrated my special day! I know now that this was quite a feat...I can't imagine waiting until the 21st to put up our tree, but they wanted this day to be set aside for me.
As I get older, my birthday is a cherished time to reflect upon the past year. This year I have taken more time for myself, which is something every mom knows is one of the hardest things for us to do. Although my fitness started late in the year (August) it was because I was dragging my toes, kicking and screaming, not wanting to exert that much energy or sweat. But, lo and behold, I finally gave in and I am so glad I did. I feel stronger, my skin is clear, my eyes are bright. I stand up straighter and taller. All because I finally decided I matter and took the steps to make it happen.
I treated myself to a new pair of jeans which were a whole size smaller than I wore in August. Suddenly the dressing room lit up like the grand finale on AFVs and I did happy dance in the dressing room whooping and hollering! When I emerged from the dressing room area people were looking at me wondering if I was the crazy woman...I just smiled and told them the jeans were a size smaller and right then they understood! OH WHAT A FEELING!
On my special day, I spent several hours with my beautiful step-daughter. We had mani-pedi's and then went to La Madeleine for lunch. I ordered spinach salad with strawberries, walnuts, feta cheese with grilled chicken and lite balsamic vinaigrette, afterwards I enjoyed a wonderful evening with my husband and son.
Truly, this past year has been amazing and I look forward to the unfolding of this new year and enjoying each day to its fullest.
Thank you Spark friends for all your birthday wishes. It's so encouraging to be on teams with such loving and caring people.
