Okay, will restart after Christmas

Tuesday, December 18, 2012

Family, work, and school events usually keep me so busy it's hard to get my exercise in. Now we have all the extra stuff with Christmas. I decided before the weekend that I'm taking a break until after Christmas. This last weekend was full of fun family stuff. We set up the tree. Sean (7) made me promise on Friday, so we got it all up. Saturday, we had the last two basketball games, until January. I wasn't working, so I made it to both, even though one is 15 miles west, the other 20 miles east of our town. Then Mary (13) begged to help wrap the presents. She played mini-mom and did the shopping with Hubby. She loves wrapping, and has been helping us for a few years. Sunday was church, a Costco run for stew supplies, and cooking meals for the week. I made my Irish stew in the turkey roaster, and a couple of roasts in my largest crock pot.

The week started busy as well. I got inspired to start the Christmas cookies. I try to bake a lot, although I've never reached my dad's number of 3000. Not even close to that number. I got a good start yesterday, but was interrupted with the twins' first piano concert at the nursing home. Two of my older kids also performed since the teacher doesn't have as many students as she once did. Then in the evening was the middle school concert. Mary had the flute solo for the band in "All is Calm." She did a duet with the piano teacher, Mary played the flute part for "Minuet." She also did a duet with a classmate, her friend sang, and Mary played piano for "Jolly Old Saint Nicholas." That was difficult since they had to perform after a kid who is a musical genius who composed his own piano piece. They pulled it off, though. Mary nailed every piece. She loves her music.

So, I've had to cut back on my workouts for now. I want to experience Christmas with my kids, so I'm squeezing all that stuff in this week when I can. I've got a busy work schedule this week, so time with the kids is limited.

Have a Merry Christmas everyone! I'll see you in the New Year!

Enjoy your kids as we know how fast they grow up. Don't worry about the "workouts," but maybe take one load of laundry upstairs at a time. (If you have stairs.) Or fold laundry and do a squat or lunge when putting it into the basket. Touch your toes when getting a pan, etc. This way you aren't taking a complete break, just adding a little movement here and there. If you can, maybe go for a short walk with the kids or sit on the floor and stretch.

We moms get busy, but we need to remember to take care of us, too! We're so much better for the kids when we take a little time for our health. emoticon
