"Heavy hors d'oeuvres" sounds scary...

Saturday, December 15, 2012

Off to my husband's company Christmas party where the foo d is heavy hors d'oeuvres. This makes me a bit anxious bc surely it is mostly fried stuff. But we shall see. Maybe some will be healthy. I'll do my best! And I'll enjoy wearing my pretty new dress. :)

emoticon Family did hors d'oeuvres pitch-in on Christmas Eve for years. For people watching quantity and healthy eating it's a killer. Each item just a little bite of a healthy protein, a couple of bites of fruit and 3-4 veggie bites are always good. So little has been eaten a couple of Christmas cookies are a must and 2 chocolate chip cookies don't even count because they aren't even a Christmas goody. Just a sip of nog, a demitasse cup of glog, and a short glass of wine when the kids are opening gifts. It seems you've been very careful but you've consumed about a million calories eating those little bites and those mini sips.

Hors d'oeuvres can be deadly to the dieter.

Carry a plate with 2-3 bites and a glass of a diet soda for the evening as you circulate and chat with the group. Of course this is too late for tonight's events, but you'll be ready for the next one.

I am on my way to my better half's company party and I too have on my new dress which doesn't leave much room for heavy eating. I don't know what they are having to eat but I do know that I am starving and am reading blogs to keep from going downstairs and gorging before the party.

Hors d'ouvres scare me because it is hard to calculate their nutritional value.

Remembe when going to special events you should have a light meal before arriving to the party, and use small plates for sampling. You will do just fine. After all, you're going to wanta wear that new dress again!
