The chase is on

The end of the year is quickly approaching. It appears as though I will have attained most of the riding goals I have set for myself. One that I didn't get was three centuries for the year. I only rode one. That will be something to work on for next year. I did manage to get 4 metric centuries and 13 half centuries so far. I am happy with that. I have 5800 miles for the year, so the goal of 6000 is in my sights.

The challenge before me now is an attempt to catch a team mate for total mileage for the year. We log our miles on another site called bike journal. She is currently in third place with me in fourth for our team. Every time I try to close on her she manages to pull away. I have closed the gap a bit over the last week and a half. On December third she was 377 miles ahead. I stepped up my commuting distance and had during last week I closed to 270 miles. Last Saturday I was running some errands which included a stop at the local bike shop for some winter gear. At the shop I was discussing my trying to close the distance with another rider. I came to find out that Jennifer (third place) was out of town for the week. Armed with that knowledge, I have now closed to within 179 miles. I can close that another 60-70 miles before the weekend. I am sooooo close. Jennifer is a strong rider and won't be passed without a fight.

We shall see. I have been watching her rear wheel for a long time. I think I would like to pull for a while.

Bill, I looked you up on Bike Journal. 9000 miles! Wow. I, too, am retired military. Navy for me. The steel decks took their toll over the years. I can't run much anymore, but I can ride all day.

Sounds like fun. BTW, I log onto Bike Journal as well. Last I looked I was 120th. Keep it up and pass Jennifer.
