I tried a new kind of produce....and this time, it was DISGUSTING

Wednesday, December 12, 2012

Now that my husband and I have moved, we have access to so many new and huge and awesome and fabulously stocked grocery stores, including Trader Joe's, and I LOVE IT!

So I took the opportunity to try a new food the other day, because I happened to see it at Trader Joe's and it looked interesting. The bag claimed it was "authentically Korean" and I don't know much about Korean food so I was intrigued.

It was a seaweed salad.

And it was SO NASTY.

The sauce that came with it was good, but apparently seaweed and my tongue do not get along. It was slimy, it looked like a pile of dead wet centipedes, and it smelled/tasted SO FISHY. And I like fish! But this tasted like that really unpleasantly fishy, almost-stagnant marine smell you encounter sometimes near rivers. The only reason I finished my serving was to not waste food, and because I figured there was some nutritional benefit to seaweed.

I think, however, that - much as I love trying new foods and adopting them into my diet - this is one food adventure I will not take again. :)

Worth a try once, though!

Trader Joe's is AWESOME. Love shopping there and often find I get bummed that the one nearest to me is not very convenient to get to. I've never been a fan of seaweed but then, I've never been a fan of fish at all. Guess the ocean and things from it just don't do it for me. Congrats for trying stuff out though!

It's always worth a try! My fiance likes to buy things that say NEW or look interesting. He went out and bought a bunch of Recipe to Riches frozen treats to try. (It might be a canadian only thing...)
Good for you for trying, I wouldn't have! lol

Aw, I think it was just a bad one you came across. I hope you'll give it another try, maybe in a (nice!) Asian restaurant. In my experience seaweed is like chewy spinach.
