Today I am eating lunch in the work canteen when a colleague I haven't seen for a couple of months comes in.

She more or less pounces. 'Wow, you look thinner. I wasn't sure it was you!'

She has an ongoing struggle with her own weight, so of course she wants to know how I've done it.

Difficult. I mean, what do you say? I told her about SP but I also say there's no magic wand. The SP principle is you count calories in, you exercise plenty of calories out, you don't eat things you know perfectly well you shouldn't. End of.

Only, it's not quite is it? I tried to explain that in fact SP is a whole community and she says 'Like Weighwatchers?' and I say 'nooooooo!' The big difference with SP is the amount you get to contribute yourself. The more you put in, the more you get out. That's why I blog, why I'm a Community Team member, why I look after the UK London and Southeast team. It's a whole lifestyle thing. The more you belong, the more positive the effect on you.

Surprisingly hard to describe it to someone who hasn't tried it.
