how to make a new habit

i remember reading years ago that it takes 21 days of doing something to make it a habit. i suppose that it's true... but i must say that something can already become routine before then. doing 5km a day is not negotiable. it was funny last night, hubby was wondering if i couldn't just do 3km and catch up the next day. but no! that's not the point. the point is that i do 5km every day. if i want to do extra, that's fine, but no matter what the minimum i do is 5km (unless i fall horribly ill/get injured or something). it is giving a nice consistency to my daily routine. working freelance, my days vary so much - this is giving me something that i know will happen every day. somedays i go to the gym and run/walk it, other days i stroll around my complex. it doesn't matter how, or when, but simply that i do it!
meanwhile, the end of the year is rapidly approaching. it seems that i only have a few more opportunities to see my friends before people start going away. even i'm going to be going away for a few days - something of a birthday/honeymoon getaway for 3 nights next week. very excited! it will be wonderful to be away with the hubbster - no responsibilities and time to just relax and focus on each other for a few days. i can't wait!
