Holidays and School

Friday, December 07, 2012

If you know me you know that I work at an alternative high school. The group of kids we currently have are some of the most challenging individuals I have ever worked with.

Many arrive to school regardless of the day of the week, hungover and a little worse for the wear.

They spend a great deal of time fighting and strutting around with their chests stuck out in an attempt to show how tough they are.

Actually, deep down they are a lot of powder-puffs. Their bark is worse than their bite. They are troubled, dealing with drugs and other problems and they wear many different hats.

As the holidays draw near, I find that it is harder and harder to get them to do much. However, when push comes to shove, my advisory comes together, puts their differences aside, and work to accomplish things.

I let you know how the next couple of weeks go.

It really is a challenging job you have and those kids are tough to work with. But I think in the alternative school you work at they have a chance. Thank goodness for people like you who are willing to work with them.

If you have a chance can you tell me how to get to Hell's Half Acre in case I get a spur of the moment chance to go hiking there. I'd love to go with you sometime, but there are times when I go hiking at the last minute and would love to know where they are. I have to go to Albuquerque the end of the week for work, and if weather is halfway decent on Saturday I hope to go up on Sandia Peak on some trails so can't get out there next weekend.

Hope the next couple of weeks goes well for you!
