Rowing Marathon

Wednesday, December 05, 2012

Did my first rowing marathon today. Time was probably terrible by most rowers standards (just over 4-1/4 hours), but I kept up a steady pace. In fact my 2nd falf was 5 minutes faster than my first half. Physically, I feel better than I expected to, though my back muscles are pretty sore. And I learned tonight that in rhe eyes of my Beagle Rocky, over 4 hours of rowing DOES NOT give me an excuse to get out of our half hour evening walk.

    wow great feat
I have done two marathons (2008 and 2009), I remember it was much harder mentally than physically. I could keep the pace comfortable but my mind would, after about 2 hours, would harass me, why am I doing this, do I need to be doing this, trying to get me to stop. My rowing machine is in the basement and the first one I was getting bored rigid just seeing the wall in front of me for so long. For the second one I brought the rower upstairs and watched tv while rowing, kind of comical because the tv had to be at a very high volume for me to hear above the rowing machine woosh. I planned it for when the rest of the family wasn't at home. Now that I have improved my running endurance I should try one again. I am not doing too much rowing lately though, good intentions and not getting it done. I will make another effort to return to a regular rowing routine. Re the marathons, when I entered my times in the rankings of the concept2 site, it made me feel pretty good that only 4 one year and 5 the other in my age group had done a marathon. The 2000m distance by comparison had a total of 144 rower rankings in my age group.

Nice to know that Rocky made sure that you were cooled off and stretched out.

I've never rowed more that 45 minutes at a time, so color me impressed!
