Gingerbread House Photos!

Tuesday, December 04, 2012

In another section of the Festival Of Trees, they have a gingerbread house contest between local media outlets! Also, after seeing all those drool triggering delights, they have a booth set up that sells gingerbread cookies. I actually had no trouble resisting these as it turned out they were the crunchy store bought ones you get in bulk. Nothing beats home made, soft, chewy, spicy gingerbread cookies :P They used to sell those cute little pfeffernusse (home made) cookies too, but no more I guess.

A neat First Nation theme:

Love the horse here:

This looks like chocolate!

Lovely church:

Cookie heaven!!!

Neat figures inside the house!

I enjoyed my day off, getting in 190 minutes of exercise, speedwalked to the club and back to finish up something, then came back and hit the data entry. I finished the big job and now I have two reports left to sum everything up and also to make sure I thank everyone who volunteered for the club. This is very tough because I give my report after the President and he thanks everyone first, stealing the thunder so to speak.
I also have to be prepared to hand out awards this Monday at our Christmas luncheon. The lady who prints them up leaves them at the club in the last minute for me to cut them out and attach the free plays with paper clips to the certificates. People who win bridge club championships get certificates with a free play award to a game. I photograph everyone, but do get frustrated when most of the people getting awards aren't there and I end up taking a picture of one person from a team of four for example.
The cold, stormy weather continues, and I am missing a great photo opportunity. My Mom was telling me about the wier completely disappearing under high water and ice and that people are taking pictures of it like crazy as its never been that high ever, looks just like a lake instead of a river!
Tomorrow is very busy. Two appointments in the morning, one I have to walk quite a ways to and will cut it close getting back to the club in time for the game. I have a game in the STaC with my mentor. Which is a special tournament game in which we earn silver points. Not that I need any anymore.
Have a Wonderful Wednesday everyone!

I remember making a gingerbread house most years with my kids: lots of sticky icing everywhere. Then we would have a toboggan party after Christmas and invite their friends to eat it up . . . .fun times.

And you can bet the ones in your pics look WAAAAAY more professional!

I know what you mean about gingerbread. I have a recipe from my grandmother that predates the Civil War as it was handed down a couple of generations to her. We used to make those cookies together from scratch. The dough was really stiff and hard for my little hands to roll out, but the thought of those richly flavored cookies makes my mouth water!

We always have a gingerbread house at Christmas, but not near as fancy as these. Thanks for posting. Maybe we'll have to get more exotic!!

So creative and a far cry from my one piddly attempt years ago! Too bad about the pfefferneuse. My mom made those every year right after Thanksgiving, then stored them in a tin to harden for a few weeks. I've never found store-bought ones as good as hers.

Food as art! Love it. Sorry about the pfefferneuse (however you spell it) not being there this year... refresh my memory, those are flavored with anise?

Anyway, thanks for the photos, they are helping me get the Spirit of the Season, which the weather down here has been deferring. But, there is hope: the forecast says Winter will show up this weekend! So, I'm thinking decorate on the weekend. emoticon

May your busy today go well! Oh, and I did want to say, don't worry about the president of the club stealing your "thank you" thunder... those who volunteer KNOW whose thank you means the most, and I am sure that for many of them, that would be YOURS! emoticon
